The end of the Wembanyama story and “the best jersey change of all time”.
The father who auctioned off the Spurs star’s jersey is now seeking to cancel the transaction at all costs.

The father of the five-year-old boy, who auctioned the jersey that Victor Wembanyama gave to his son two months ago at the Barclays Center, has decided to step back and retract from the deal. After the Spurs’ victory over the Nets in Brooklyn (96-87), the San Antonio star made a great gesture by exchanging jerseys with a boy from the stands once the game had ended. “The best jersey swap of all time,” posted the San Antonio Spurs on social media at the time. What neither the French player nor his team likely expected was that this small gesture would become such a big story.

Now, the father of the child has decided to cancel the $73,000 transaction before the New York Supreme Court, arguing that the contract he signed with the jersey resale platform should be voided, as he was unaware of the illegality of selling a child’s belongings for more than $50,000 without a court-appointed guardian. Additionally, the family has accused the company of using images of the exchange for commercial purposes despite having been notified not to do so, which has caused damage to the family unit.
