The odd LeBron James scoring record to specifically remember on his 41st birthday

Heat, Cavs and Lakers fans have all witnessed the incredible scoring of the King, but there’s one cumulative stat they may have overlooked.

Update:

LeBron James turns 41 on December 30, 2025, with a statistical footnote that feels trivial at first glance and quietly absurd once you sit with it.

It is not about championships, MVPs or career totals – although he clearly has shown his class in those categories – it is about birthdays.

LeBron’s birthday buckets: a record built by fortune and longevity

Across his NBA career till now, LeBron has scored 303 points in games played on his birthday, the most by any player in league history. It is a record created not by intent, but by availability. To score on your birthday, you have to still be playing at an elite level late in the calendar year, in a league where careers often end before the schedule ever lines up consistently.

For LeBron, the coincidence kept repeating. December 30 kept landing in the middle of seasons where he was still the focal point of his team’s offense. The result is a strange but revealing milestone built over two decades.

The top five NBA birthday scorers

From the data I’ve been able to assess, these are the players who have scored the most points on their birthdays, along with the dates that made it possible.

1. LeBron James – 303 points
– Birthday: December 30

2. Michael Jordan – 262 points
– Birthday: February 17

3. Kobe Bryant – 248 points
– Birthday: August 23

4. Karl Malone – 236 points
– Birthday: July 24

5. Kevin Durant – 221 points
– Birthday: September 29

The pattern matters. February and late December birthdays fall cleanly inside the NBA regular season, giving players like Jordan and LeBron more natural opportunities. Summer birthdays, like Kobe’s and Malone’s, required preseason or early-season games to even qualify, making their totals more impressive than they appear at first glance.

It’s worth noting that the Lakers face the Pistons on Wednesday, so more can be added to James’ cumulative total. It’s maybe asking too much, though, that he tops the highest single game individual birthday boy score of 61 points. That was set by Shaquille O’Neal on March 6, 2000.
