Update:

Seventeen seasons, four championships, two MVPs, and more than a thousand games later, Stephen Curry finally added a new line to his spotless NBA résumé: his first-ever flagrant foul.

The moment came during the Golden State Warriors’ eventual 126-102 loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder, when Curry contested a three-point shot from Isaiah Joe late in the first quarter. The officials initially called a common foul but, after review, upgraded it to a Flagrant 1 for stepping into Joe’s landing space, a move considered dangerous under the league’s latest safety rules.

Curry closes out from a distance with an extended leg,” referee John Goble announced to the expectant crowd. “Joe lands on Curry’s foot, creating a potential for injury as a result of the contact. Therefore the foul has been upgraded to a flagrant foul, penalty 1.”

In more than a decade and a half of play, Curry had never been caught in this manner. He has taken countless hits while rarely being the one dishing them out. To see his name next to a flagrant call felt almost surreal and is a fantastic quiz question round the dinner table this thanksgiving.

For Curry, it happened on a frustrating night. He was returning from a brief absence, struggled with his shot, and picked up multiple personal fouls before halftime. The Warriors, still trying to find consistency early in the season, ended up on the wrong side of the scoreline too.
