Estados Unidos Update:

LeBron James will return for at least one more season in the NBA, confirming his 23rd campaign after exercising his $52.6 million player option with the Los Angeles Lakers.

In the 2024–25 regular season, he averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds and one steal across 70 games – performances that earned him a place on the All-NBA Second Team.

More games, more seasons: James targets history

With his 23rd season, James is closing in on two major all-time records. First, he’s aiming to surpass Boston Celtics legend Robert Parish, who appeared in 1,611 games over 21 seasons. Known as ‘The Chief’, Parish played every game except for his final year – when, at age 43, he suited up in 43 contests for the Chicago Bulls.

James currently sits at 1,562 career games. That means he needs 49 more to tie Parish’s mark, and 50 to claim it outright.

The second record in his sights is for most seasons played in the NBA. At the moment, he shares the record of 22 with Vince Carter. As soon as James takes the court in the opening game of the 2025–26 season, he will stand alone with 23.
