Warriors sweat on assistant coach’s health

According to reports, a member of the Golden State Warriors coaching staff was hospitalized in Salt Lake City following a team dinner. Golden State assistant coach Dejan Milojevic suffered a medical emergency at a restaurant in Utah on Tuesday during a team dinner. Reports indicated that the situation was “sudden and serious,” before explaining that “Coach Dejan Milojevic was hospitalized last night in Salt Lake City, Utah, after suffering a medical emergency at a private team dinner. An update on Milojevic’s status will be provided as appropriate.”

Who was Dejan Milojevic?

A native of Serbia, Milojevic was added to the Warriors coaching staff in 2021 and helped the franchise win a championship in 2022. He played in Serbia, Spain, Montenegro, and Turkey during his 14-year professional career and was named the MVP of the Adriatic League three times (2004-06). He joined Kerr’s staff after coaching stints with Mega Vizura in Serbia and Buducnost in Montenegro, where he won the Montenegrin League Championship. To be clear, he did in fact travel with the team ahead of the scheduled game against the Utah Jazz which has since been postponed.

If we’re honest, it was during his time coaching overseas when Milojevic made his name known. Indeed, it was through him that a productive channel between Mega Vizura and the NBA was established. To be clear, eleven of the players Milojevic coached during his eight seasons with Mega Vizura went on to be selected in the NBA Draft. Among them were Nikola Jokic, Ivica Zubac, Goga Bitadze, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, and Vlatko Cancar i.e., the proof is in the pudding. With the Warriors game against the Jazz now postponed, the team will play next on Friday at home against the Dallas Mavericks.
