Warriors 88 - 140 Celtics summary, stats, scores and highlights | NBA
The Celtics had a franchise high 44 point lead going into halftime and that extended to 50 soon after the break. The bench guys kept the energy up and had their starters jumping off the bench celebrating each and every big play.
The Warriors, who came into the game having won 12 of their last 15, head home after a four game Eastern Conference swing, and they will look to erase this loss from their memories as soon as possible.
Th Celtics are now on a season high 11 game win streak, but have to hit the road for the next five, including a trip to the defending champion Nuggets house.
Brown stole the show in the first quarter, but Tatum had his say in the second. He ignited, scoring 20 of his 22 first half points in the quarter and putting on a show for the fans that eventually sang him happy birthday later in the game.
The duo of Tatum and Brown outscored the Warriors 47-38 in the opening 24 minutes as they both called it a day shortly after coming out in the third quarter. Tatum ended the night with 27 and Brown had 29.
The Celtics offense was unstoppable and the defense went through a 12 minute stretch in which they allowed just 6 points to a team with two fo the best scorers in history on the floor. Steph Curry came into the day questionable, and even though he played, he barley made an impact. He ended the game with 4 points, Thompson had 6 and both sat for the entire second half.
It may have been Tatum's birthday, but Jaylen Brown took the stage first and almost blew the candles out on the Warriors in the opening 12 minutes. He had 19 points, and hit five threes in a quarter in which the Celtics banged home 10 long balls, taking a 44-22 lead into the second quarter. The home team went on a 23-1 run to end the quarter and never looked back.
The Birthday Boy had plenty to celebrate on his big day in front of his family and fans. The Celtics still have the taste of the home loss to the Warriors in the Finals from two years ago, and they showed just how much and how long they can hold a grudge. They gave Golden State a historic beating on a night in which most of their starters enjoyed some well deserved rest.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM THE GARDEN!!!
Brandon Podziemski was on the injury report coming into today's game, but he warmed up and all indications point to him playing although he won't be in the starting five. Klay Thompson is back in the first five, maybe because of Podziemski's injury or may for a match up that Steve Kerr likes more with Thompson on the floor to start the game. The Warriors have had success with Klay coming off the bench, let's see how the decision affects GS tonight.
With Porzingis out, it comes at no surprise that Al Horford will plug in to Joe Mazzulla's starting five. This is still one of the best starting fives in the league, even without Porzingis. Horford and Porzingis silimar in the face that they can shoot the three, stretch a defense out, grab rebounds and plug up the paint.
NBA Standings
Taking a look at the NBA standings in both conferences, we see both of these teams at opposite ends of the post season spectrum in their respective conferences. The Celtics are at the top of the East with a league leading record of 47-12, which is eight games above the second placed Cavaliers in the East and well ahead of the Timberwolves who are leading the West at 42-18. Barring a late season collapse the Celtics should have home court throughout the playoffs. The Warriors on the other hand, will just be happy to avoid the Play-In Tournament. Despite their recent run of success, they are still 9th in the conference
Porzingis to sit today
While Holiday is almost always available, Kristaps Porzingis will be out tonight in a big home game against the Warriors. Porzingis was injured on this play against the Mavericks on Sunday with a minor quad contusion that will keep him out at least for this game.
Curry was also listed questionable with a slight knee injury, but he will suit up for another game on the big stage.
No days off for Holiday
Jayson Tatum is the driving of the bus in Boston. We all know that. Jaylen Brown is the perfect wingman, and the owner of the NBA’s richest contract. While both are All-Stars, and two of the best at their respective positions, they alone haven’t been enough to bring a title to Boston. The front offices brought in Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday to the Garden this offseason and so far it looks like that decision has paid off. Porzingis is averaging 20 points a game and Holiday is the leading assist man with 4.9 while bringing on edge on the defensive end that is going to be instrumental once the playoffs come around. Their 10 game win streak is the longest in the league, and the NBA’s best team will try to extend their run today in front of their home fans.
Light, Camera, Stephen
Stephen Curry loves a big stage. We saw it in New York on Thursday night when he dropped 31 at the Garden in the Warriors win over the Knicks. He knows the history of the building and the team he is playing in today. While it may not be the same Garden that Larry Bird, Robert Parish and Kevin McHale played in, guys like Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett won a title here. Curry also knows the significance of playing against the Celtics, one of the two most prolific franchises in history. On an afternoon game, on the a nationally televised game you know Curry is going to be licking his lips to put on a show in Boston.
Warriors last game
The Warriors were in Toronto on their third of four road games on this east coast swing and they stretched their away win streak to eight games on Friday night against the Raptors. They were playing on the second night of a back to back, but that didn’t slow Steph Curry or Johnathan Kuminga down. Curry had 25 and the 21 year old put up 24 but the Raptors kept it tight for the first two quarters. It was the Warriors defense that made the difference in the second half, holding Toronto to just 41 points in the final 24 minutes as the Warriors won their 13th in the last 16 games.
Boston's last game
The Boston Celtics welcomed the Dallas Mavericks into the TD Garden on Friday night and never trailed, going wire to wire for their 10th straight win. Luka Doncic kept the Mavs in the game with a 37 point triple-double, but Jayson Tatum and the C’s were too much for a Dallas team that shot just 26.5% from behind the line. It was a perfect night for Boston, who saw their three stars score 32 (Tatum), 25 (Brown), and 24 (Porzingis). The defense sealed the deal in the final quarter, holding Dallas to 20 points and coasting to a 28 point victory.
We are live from the Boston
Hello everyone and welcome to the Garden where the Boston Celtics have been rolling since before the All-Star break. Jayson Tatum and company are currently on a ten game win streak and not only have the best record in the East, but are well ahead of the pack in the Western Conference for best record in the league. The Warriors would be the hottest team in the league if it wasn’t for the Celtics. Since a wretched start to the season, Steve Kerr’s side have gone through a midseason make over that has them playing their best ball of the year. They still need to make a climb up the standings, and the best way to do that is by winning games like the one they have tonight.
Warriors vs. Celtics
It’s a rematch of the NBA Finals series from two years ago today in Boston as the league leading Celtics get set for an afternoon showdown against the Golden State Warriors. AS English will be with you all afternoon providing live coverage, stats, highlights and analysis of today’s game.
