Update:

As the 2025-26 NBA season unfolds, the Golden State Warriors find themselves stood on the edge of a cliff. Once the standard-bearers of modern basketball excellence, the Warriors have encountered mixed results this season, forcing both fans and analysts to rethink the franchise’s immediate and long-term strategy.

At the centre of most discussions is Stephen Curry, the franchise legend whose influence in the game is undisputed. Despite being 36-years-old, Curry continues to produce at a high level and his output has never been in question, despite sometimes wobbly team results.

In fact, calling them wobbly is kind; strikingly inconsistent is perhaps more accurate: the Warriors currently sit around .500, and there is a sense that the roster, while competitive, may not be enough to seriously contend for a championship without further upgrades.

As such, rumours have swirled like a barrage of buzzing bees that seem to suggets the Warriors are willing to be aggressive in retooling the roster. Insider reporting indicates that Golden State has multiple first-round picks and valuable assets that could be used to take the team to the next level.

But writer Marc Delucchi of Golden State of Mind suggested a radical alternative: a three-team deal that would send Curry to the Houston Rockets in exchange for 31-year-old NBA champion guard Giannis Antetokounmpo.

While this trade idea is not certain to happen, it highlights deeper questions about the Warriors’ strategy over the past few years. Some argue that instead of parting ways with Curry, the Warriors might be better off improving the roster around him as the star target. Curry’s current contract keeps him in Golden State until the 2026-27 season, and he remains one of the most prolific shooters in NBA history; losing him would send shockwaves throughout the sport.
