Update:

Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks once again found himself at the centre of controversy after a heated Western Conference showdown with the Los Angeles Lakers. In a game that was thrilling on the scoreboard and intense on the court, Brooks’ latest clash with Lakers legend LeBron James ended with an ejection and more sharp words from the Suns’ outspoken wing.

The drama unfolded late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game. Down by 20 points earlier, the Suns rallied behind Brooks, who hit a stunning three-point shot with just 12.2 seconds to play to give Phoenix a one-point lead.

Alas, dear reader, the jubilation was short-lived.

After a disputed closeout on James, Brooks bumped the veteran star in frustration. That second technical foul of the night inevitably resulted in an automatic ejection.

“When I’m on the floor, it changes the whole game”

“[I need to learn] how to stay in the game and be able to affect the game when I’m in the game,” Brooks said on Wednesday. “That’s my problem through my whole career, is I let those things happen, and then I’m off the floor. Then at the end of the day, how much people hate on me and say I’m not a good player and all that, but when I’m on the floor, it changes the whole game.”

His nemesis on the night, LeBron James, went on to make crucial free throws after drawing a foul in the final seconds, and the Lakers edged out the Suns 116–114 in a dramatic finish.

In the post-game media session days later, Brooks did not mince his words when talking about James and the incident, labelling LeBron a “social media junkie,” suggesting the Lakers star watches and reacts to comments made about him online.

“I guess he’s a social-media junkie. He be all over the socials, so he be seeing I guess what I’m saying. … Like I’ve (said) he thinks that people should think a way about him or not say nothing about him or play a certain way, and I’m not going to play that way. He gets in his moods or in his modes or whatever it is. I’m all for that.”
