When does the 2023 NBA Summer League start?
You can probably see that the NBA never really takes a break. From the NBA Finals to the NBA Draft, and now in a matter of weeks the Summer League.
A proving ground for newly drafted players and a test of relevance for those veterans who are on the fringes of their rosters, the NBA’s Summer League is always an interesting time when coaches and teams essentially get the opportunity to figure things out. Who will get a coveted spot in the league and who will be pushed into rotation? With all this in mind, here’s a look at where and when it all goes down.
Where is the NBA Summer League
This year the NBA’s Summer League tournament will tip off in Sacramento with the California Classic, before heading to Utah for the Salt Lake City Summer League. From there it heads to Las Vegas for the big finale: the NBA 2K24 Summer League. Needless to say, it’s gonna be a wild ride with one of the most exciting Draft classes in some time. With the likes of Victor Wembanyama, Scoot Henderson, and Bradon Miller to name a few, it’s going to be an exciting showcase of the next generation of NBA stars.
When is Summer League for Las Vegas and Sacramento?
The NBA Summer League 2023 will begin with the Sacramento Kings hosting the fifth annual California Classic at the Golden 1 Center on July, 3rd and 5th. Alongside the hosts will be the Charlotte Hornets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, and San Antonio Spurs. As you will see in the full schedule below, the tournament will start off with a replay of the 2020 NBA Finals when the Heat go up against the Lakers at 3:00 p.m. ET on Day 1, however, we all know that the showpiece event will be when Victor Wembanyama hopefully makes his NBA debut in the game between the Spurs and the Hornets, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
As mentioned before, the next stop on the tour is Utah where the Jazz will play host to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers. From there it’s off to ‘Sin City’ for the big party. With all 30 teams present in Las Vegas from July 7th, it promises to be a show. Indeed, the Thomas and Mack Center as well as the Cox Pavilion will play host to the teams as they all play a total of five games, with the top two teams from the first four games playing in a Championship Game.
