Mac McClung defends NBA Dunk Contest
Mac McClung currently plays for the Osceola Magic, the developmental affiliate of the Orlando Magic. The guard secured the dunk contest title last year, making history as the first player from the G League to achieve this feat. At that time, McClung was a member of the Delaware Blue Coats, affiliated with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, this year, the 25-year-old guard has not played in the NBA. In total, McClung has played four games over two seasons in the premier basketball league worldwide, but the Magic have not provided him with an opportunity this season.

NBA action for Mac McClung
During the 2021-22 season, Mac McClung signed two 10-day contracts with the Chicago Bulls and a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers towards the end of the regular season, but he only played twice. With the Bulls, he saw action in one of the eight games he was present for, scoring two points with one turnover. His experience with the Lakers was different as he took to the court for 21 minutes and 50 seconds in the last game of the regular season. McClung accumulated six points, three rebounds, one assist, and one blocked shot.
In the 2022-23 season, he played two games with the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 20.5 minutes of play.
G League McClung
Mac McClung’s statistics in the G League have shown remarkable growth this year with the Osceola Magic. The guard went from averaging 19.8 points, 5.0 assists, and 2.6 rebounds to 23.7 points, 7.2 assists, and 4.9 rebounds.
However, his potential call-up to the NBA is limited due to the outstanding performances of Cole Anthony, Markelle Fultz, and Anthony Black, who have been crucial to Orlando’s record of 30-35 after the first half of the 2023-24 season.
McClung was the 2021-22 G League Rookie of the Year after firing 21.6 points, 7.6 assists, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 27 games with the South Bay Lakers and Windy City Bulls. He is the first ever G League player to take part in the All-Star Weekend Dunk Contest. A long-term dunk fanatic, he first started dunking as a sophomore at Gate City High School.
