If you’re going to be late, you could at least communicate the fact that you will be. That’s apparently what was on the Celtics star’s mind as he apologized for his team’s part in pushing back the date of the famous artist’s concert.
Jayson Tatum apologizes for Janet Jackson concert delay
Call it tongue in cheek, but Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum was in an apologetic mood after his team eliminated the Atlanta Hawks in Game 6 of their opening round playoff series on Thursday night. The interesting thing, however, is that this wasn’t some show of sportsmanship. Indeed, Tatum apologized for the lateness of the series’ conclusion which resulted in a previously scheduled Janet Jackson concert being pushed back. Jackson’s concert was set to be staged on Thursday night at the State Farm Arena, but due to the series going to six games, her “Together Again” show is now scheduled to take place on Friday night. Of course, such eventualities are the norm when it comes to this unpredictable point of the NBA’s campaign, but we imagine Tatum would have made his ‘regret’ known either way.
“I wanna send an apology to the legend Janet Jackson. We were supposed to close it out in Boston. She had to postpone her show. I hope she sees this, you know, I apologize for that. But we got it done today,” Tatum said.
Was is really bad planning?
With all due respect to the Hawks who came into the playoffs with a 41-41 record, perhaps it wasn’t exactly insulting to believe that the arena would have been free by the time Thursday rolled around. None the less, fans can rest easy as all tickets to Thursday’s concert will now be honored on Friday, meaning any fans who are unable to attend the show can be assured that they will receive a full refund. As for Tatum, we can definitely tell that he had Jackson’s fans in mind as evidenced by his efforts to put the game to bed. On the night, the four-time NBA All-Star put up 30 points on 11-of-20 shooting with 14 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks. Tatum and the Celtics will now face the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
