Why does Kyrie Irving want to leave the Brooklyn Nets?

Kyrie Irving once more shocks the NBA world by asking for a trade out of the franchise. The Lakers could be a possibility.

Is this the NBA/NFL script? One day after Groundhog Day, once more, and according to ESPN, Kyrie Irving has asked to leave the Nets. Two days ago, Tom Brady said he was retiring from football, and today Irving asked his current team to let him go. It seems that 2023 is a repeat of 2022.

The Brooklyn star is no stranger to controversy. Just last year, the PG sat out almost half the season due to not being vaccinated and not obeying New York City’s covid-19 vaccine mandate. This year, he missed eight games after throwing his support for a movie that contained antisemite tints.

Why does Kyrie Irving want to leave the Brooklyn Nets?

The ex-Cavaliers’ contract is up this year, and although there were talks about him renewing with the franchise, it seems the player is not happy with the team.

The Nets have lost seven out of their eleven last games, and maybe the player feels he has a better chance with another team. At the beginning of the season, he asked the team to be signed and traded, but that never happened; maybe he feels this is his moment to take his talents somewhere else.

Where could Kyrie Irving go if he is traded?

Not many teams have much to offer to the Nets in a trade for Kyrie. So the closest team to being a potential destination might be the Lakers or perhaps someone like the Miami Heat.

The Lakers could send Westbrook to the Nets for the chance to get the 30-year-old.
