While the NBA gods pour salt into the injury wounds at Madison Square Gardens, he’s sticking his leg into their ribs. The injury list keeps getting longer at the New York Knicks, as they now have key figure Mitchell Robinson laid up in the physio room, becoming the third player the side have lost in the playoffs.

The 26-year-old started the first 21 games of the season before ankle surgery in December forced him to miss a whopping 49 fixtures. He returned for the final stretch of the campaign but a tough time up against Joel Embiid of the 76ers saw him retire from the court early and the worst has now been confirmed.

What injury does Mitchell Robinson have?

The Florida native played in just 12 minutes on Monday in his side’s Game 1 victory over the Pacers, finishing with two points and two rebounds.

Shortly after the tie, it was confirmed by the Knicks that Robinson had “sustained a stress injury to his left ankle and will be re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks”. The official NBA injury report submitted has all of Mitchell Robinson, Julius Randle and Bojan Bogdanovic listed as ‘out’ of the game at Madison Square Gardens.

What did Mitchell Robinson say on Twitter/X about Joel Embiid?

“This is so f—ked up dawg like I don’t even know what to say,” Robinson posted on social media on Tuesday night, before adding “This is not over! I WILL SEEK REVENGE.”

It’s safe to say that Robinson’s anger reflects that of the Knicks fans, who are outraged at the antics of Joel Embiid, who opted for a more physical approach against a player that has suffered so heavily from injuries in recent times. The challenge for the Knicks against the Pacers, with Robinson’s injury, just got even more difficult.

The Knicks host the Pacers in New York today, Wednesday May 8 2024, with tip-off at Madison Square Garden scheduled for 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
