Update:

As the Oklahoma City Thunder prepare to face the Orlando Magic, all eyes are on star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and whether he will take the court. The reigning MVP has been a pillar for the Thunder this season, but a recent injury cloud and his status on the injury report have sparked plenty of speculation.

Through the current campaign, Gilgeous-Alexander has been one of the most consistent performers in the NBA, posting elite scoring and playmaking numbers while keeping the Thunder competitive in the Western Conference.

However, recent reports show that Gilgeous-Alexander’s availability for tonight remains uncertain. The official injury list leading into the game against the Magic had him labelled as “questionable” with a right finger sprain, suggesting the Thunder are still evaluating his condition close to tip-off.

If he is able to go, Gilgeous-Alexander’s impact cannot be overstated. When healthy, he has been the primary offensive engine for Oklahoma City, often dictating tempo, creating shots for teammates, and carrying a heavy scoring burden.

His numbers underline his MVP-calibre importance to the Thunder: across 47 games, he is averaging 32.0 points per game along with 4.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists per contest. He is shooting highly efficiently, connecting on 55.6 per cent of his field-goal attempts and 39.0 per cent from three-point range, while also boasting a sublime free-throw percentage of 89.4 per cent.

If he is unable to play tonight, look for role players such as Cason Wallace, Jalen Williams, and others to shoulder increased responsibility on both ends of the floor. The Magic will be sniffing at any potential absence as an opportunity to tighten the game defensively and test the Thunder’s depth.
