Update:

Golden State Warriors star point guard Steph Curry has been ruled out of Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers as he continues to deal with an injury in his right knee.

Curry’s absence stems from an official diagnosis of patellofemoral pain syndrome, which for people who don’t wear white coats over woollen jumpers, is known as “runner’s knee.”

This condition typically causes pain and swelling around the kneecap, particularly with repetitive motion and impact - key aspects if you want to practice sport. Warriors’ medical staff have listed the injury as day-to-day, indicating that while it is not believed to be severe or structurally damaging, it’s persistent enough to keep him away from the court for the time being.

Curry admits injury is “super weird” and “something that I hadn’t felt before”

This is not the first time Curry has handled a niggling knee issue in his storied career, but in this instance the discomfort appeared to escalate after a recent workout and carried over into game action.

Reports suggest that Curry first began feeling symptoms after an individual session in Minneapolis on January 24, which led to him sitting out one game the following day. He tried to play through the soreness in subsequent contests, but was visibly bothered late in Golden State’s loss to the Detroit Pistons on January 30 and eventually had to leave the game early.

Head coach Steve Kerr has emphasised patience with the injury, noting that Curry’s return will depend on how he responds to treatment and how comfortably he can move without symptom flare-ups; Curry himself, rather worryingly, said it was “super weird” and “something that I hadn’t felt before.”

Golden State is already coping with injuries elsewhere, with forward Jonathan Kuminga also out tonight due to a knee bone bruise.

Curry, even if he is not out of action for a long time, will be a huge miss for the team: he is averaging 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from 3.
