College football bowl games: Who plays today Monday Dec. 22? Teams, times and matchups

College football’s bowl slate is light on Monday, Dec. 22, but it still delivers a matchup with future conference implications as Utah State and Washington State meet on the postseason stage for the first time.

The lone game on today’s schedule is the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, featuring two 6-6 teams that will soon be reunited as Pac-12 conference mates in 2026.

Aggies vs Cougars preview

Utah State returns to a familiar postseason setting, making its sixth appearance in the Potato Bowl and its first bowl trip since 2023. It also marks a successful debut season for head coach Bronco Mendenhall in Logan.

Washington State arrives under unusual circumstances. The Cougars clinched bowl eligibility with a rivalry win over Oregon State, but will play under interim head coach Jesse Bobbit after Jimmy Rogers departed for Iowa State. Kirby Moore is set to take over the program after the bowl.

These teams last met in 2024, when Washington State earned a 49-28 win, though both rosters and coaching staffs look very different now.
