Update:

College football’s postseason officially gets underway on Saturday, December 13, with two bowl games opening a long stretch that now includes the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff.

This is the second season using the new CFP format, which will ultimately crown a national champion on Monday, January 19, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The playoff itself begins later this week with four first-round games played on campus sites on December 19 and 20, before the quarterfinals and semifinals rotate through the traditional New Year’s Six bowls.

Before any of that, however, bowl season starts today with a pair of standalone games, both airing on ABC.

Celebration Bowl

  • Teams: South Carolina State vs. Prairie View A&M
  • Venue: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta
  • Time: Noon ET

The Celebration Bowl once again opens the postseason by pitting the champions of the MEAC and SWAC against each other. South Carolina State and Prairie View A&M meet in Atlanta with conference pride and a national HBCU spotlight on the line.

Bucked Up LA Bowl

  • Teams: Boise State vs. Washington
  • Venue: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California
  • Time: 8 p.m. ET

Saturday night’s matchup brings a West Coast feel, as Boise State faces Washington under the lights at SoFi Stadium. The LA Bowl has quickly established itself as one of the more prominent early bowls, pairing a consistent Mountain West contender against a Pac-12 program in a prime-time slot.

In total, this postseason features 36 bowl games in addition to the 11 contests that make up the College Football Playoff. The vast majority of those games – 42 in all – will air across ESPN and ABC networks, offering wall-to-wall coverage from today through to the national title game in January.
