Dan Lanning’s contract details: What’s the Oregon Ducks football coach’s salary and how many years are left?
Here’s everything you need to know about Dan Lanning’s contract with the Oregon Ducks.

When Dan Lanning arrived at the University of Oregon, he brought a new era of football with him. Now in his fourth season as head coach, Lanning’s success on the field has been recognised off it as well, with the manager committing to a long-term contract that keeps him in the Willamette Valley well into the next decade.
In early March 2025, Oregon and Lanning agreed to a deal that gave him a significant salary boost and extended his tenure until the 2030 season. The six-year deal places Lanning among the highest-paid coaches in college football, reflecting both his performance and the programme’s ambitions.
“Every morning I wake up grateful and hungry to represent Oregon,” Lanning said in a statement. “... I’m also very thankful we have been able to have great continuity with our coaching staff over the last three years. The job Will and Tosh do for our program cannot be overstated. I have seen growth from both sides of the ball which is a credit to their leadership and the support they receive from our offensive and defensive staffs.”

Under the new terms, Lanning’s average annual earnings are close to $11 million, up roughly $2 million from his previous package.
That figure puts him firmly in the top tier of compensation for head coaches outside the powerhouses in the Southeastern Conference and Big Ten. Details released around the time of the announcement indicate that the contract runs six more seasons, running from 2025 until 2030.
A significant part of any coach’s contract is the buy-out clause, and Lanning’s is no different. To depart Oregon before the end of his deal, another programme would typically have to pay a $20 million buy-out, a huge deterrent which discourages poachers.

Performance incentives are also a key feature of modern contracts, but they’re not as widely available. In general, bonuses in contracts can include payouts for things like bowl appearances, playoff wins, conference titles, and academic milestones. It is assumed that Lanning has such clauses included in his deal.
