Ryan Patrick is currently the head football coach at Ohio State University, a position he has held since January 2019. Before he was appointed the head coach, Day was the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Buckeyes. Without counting the three games he coached in 2018, before officially taking over at the head coach position for the Buckeyes, his record is 53-8.

Day’s career in football began as a college quarterback at the University of New Hampshire, where he played from 1998 to 2001. Following his playing career, he began coaching at the University of New Hampshire as a tight ends coach. He has also worked as an assistant coach at Boston College, Temple, and the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League.

Day’s stint as the acting head coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes for the first three games of the 2018 season was a remarkable success. He led the team to three wins and helped them maintain their position as one of the top teams in the country. Despite being in an interim role, Day’s coaching style and leadership skills were evident and praised by many.

Ryan Day’s contract details

Ryan Day, the current head coach of Ohio State’s football program, signed a seven-year contract in May 2022, including a two-year extension. The entire arrangement is worth $66.5 million. Unlike other coaches, his salary of $9.5 million yearly does not increase annually. This amount will remain the same throughout the contract period, which ends in 2028.

Day’s salary is one of the highest in college football, ranking seventh among all coaches. He was ranked second behind Mel Tucker, the head coach of Michigan State, in USA TODAY Sports’ annual survey of head coaching salaries. Day has led Ohio State’s program for four seasons and won two conference titles in his first two seasons.

The highest-paid head coaches in college football are Nick Saban of Alabama ($10.96 million), Dabo Swinney of Clemson ($10.54 million), Kirby Smart of Georgia ($10.25 million), and Brian Kelly of Louisiana State ($9.81 million). Mel Tucker is in fifth place, while Jimbo Fisher of Texas A&M is in sixth place, earning $9 million.
