Estados Unidos Update:

The final of the College Football Playoffs is just around the corner and Hard Rock Stadium in Miami will play host to this season’s NCAA Championship Game.

On Monday, January 19 the Indiana Hoosiers will take on the Miami Hurricanes, looking to complete a perfect season. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza was recently awarded the Heisman Trophy and he is one win away from becoming a national champion.

The Hoosiers finished the regular season with a 12-0 record, entering the CFP as the No.1 seed. They have beaten fellow title contender Ohio State on their way to Monday’s showpiece final, outscoring opponents by 69 points across their two playoff games.

Indiana Hoosiers target big CFP bonus

In the College Football Playoffs the prize money is distributed in a performance-based model. As teams progress through the postseason, the prize money on offer increases.

For the eventual winners, the total prize money will be $20 million. Here’s a closer look at how that breaks down, round by round...

Indiana Hoosiers prize money for College Football Playoffs

  1. To reach the CFP, Top 12: $4 million
  2. CFP Quarter-finals: $4 million
  3. CFP Semi-finals: $6 million
  4. CFP National Championship final: $6 million

Although teams can earn up to $20 million, they may not keep it all. Each conference has its own policy on prize money distribution.

In the ACC teams keep 100% of the CFP prize money. For teams in the SEC, championship-winning teams keep $14.25 million, while $5.75 million is distributed among the other conference members. In the Big Ten and the Big 12, all prize money is pooled and distributed equally among all member universities.
