Michigan Wolverines football first to win 1,000 games: List of college football teams by wins
As we take stock of the Michigan Wolverines’ historic achievement on Saturday evening, we take a look at the list of college football’s biggest winners.
On Saturday night, the Wolverines etched their name into the NCAA’s history books by recording their 1000th win, but who else is on college football’s list of winners and where do they rank relative to Michigan’s massive milestone?
Michigan tops them all with 1000 wins
As you now know, Michigan became the first program to win 1,000 games after the team’s 31-24 victory against Maryland on Saturday afternoon. The win also took the team to 11-0 this season ahead of the regular season finale against their eternal rivals, Ohio State. To be fair, the win was not the best example of the team’s prowess as their opponents were guilty of several errors. Indeed, the Wolverines received two safeties during the game, however, a win is a win and as head coach Jim Harbaugh acknowledged, it’s something special.
“Just really want to shout out the Green Bay Packers, most wins in NFL history: 793,” he said. “Most wins in high school football, Valdosta, Georgia: 951. Michigan Wolverines: 999. No one has won more. Nobody. I want to thank everyone who has put on the winged helmet.” Of course, there are many other programs that have secured a position among the elites of the college game. While we can offer you a more detailed look at the Top 10 programs here, below you can find the list of Top 20 schools by wins recorded.
