As we come into the 2023 NCAA Final Four without a top-three seed for the first time ever, the path to pick with any certainty a clear favorite is murky at best.

Yes, of course the odds-on tip to win is the currently highest-seeded team still standing, the number four UConn. But it isn’t that simple.

Both Miami and San Diego State are five-seeds and once you get out of the top three, the difference in the places is little more than nominal. Either of those two teams could conceivably topple the cart.

And then there is the outsider, the dark horse, Florida Atlantic University.

While the ninth-seeded Owls are rightfully a long shot, it should not be forgotten that they have already upended a four-seed in Tennessee, not to mention a three-seed in Kansas State.

The bookies see it as a straight run UConn win, and the big money is on an FAU upset. Here is how they have it in Caesars Sportsbook.

TEAMODDS
UConn -125
San Diego State +390
Miami +500
FAU+600

Our Prediction

While we are not prepared to go out on a limb and say that FAU will win it all, we could certainly see an upset over San Diego State. UConn should deal with Miami, setting up a UConn vs FAU final.

We are going to stick with the sportsbook line and take UConn in a tight one, not more than a four-point spread.

But I think I might stick a few dollars on FAU, just in case.
