Update:

College football is finally back as of this Saturday! We’ll get to see real college football games for the first time since Ohio State beat Notre Dame in the CFP national championship in January. Although the “official” start to the season will kick off on Thursday, August 28, there will be five games played in what is popularly called “Week 0″.

Although there are fewer games this weekend, Saturday’s games do count towards the team’s records. The games will be headlined by Big 12 foes Kansas State and Iowa State kicking off in Dublin, Ireland! Let’s take a look at the full schedule for this Saturday as college football makes its return.

The return of college football: Full schedule for Saturday, August 23

No. 20 Kansas State vs. No. 21 Iowa State

  • Noon ET, ESPN
  • Dublin, Ireland

The season begins with an international game that features a Big 12 showdown. It will also feature a battle of two returning veteran QBs: Rocco Becht (Iowa State, 3,505 yards & 25 TDs in 2024) vs. Avery Johnson (K-State, dual threat but turnover prone). The Cyclones boast strong running back depth with Carson Hansen and Abu Sama III while the Wildcats will lean on their passing game with WR Jayce Brown and TE Garrett Oakley..

Idaho State at UNLV

  • 4 p.m. ET, Mountain West Network

The Rebels begin the Dan Mullen era after an impressive 11–3 season in 2024 (2nd in the Mountain West). This opener against FCS foe Idaho State offers a first look at how quickly Mullen can put his stamp on a team that’s coming off a conference title game run. Idaho State, 5–7 last year (3–5 in the Big Sky), will try to punch up and make it interesting. The Rebels have never lost to Idaho State (3–0 all-time), and they’ll be heavy favorites again here.

Fresno State at Kansas

  • 6:30 p.m. ET, Fox

The Jayhawks will christen their newly renovated stadium against a tough Mountain West opponent. Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels (12 INT in 2024, 8 in first 6 games) must start sharper this year. The Bulldogs will debut their new head coach Matt Entz and quarterback E.J. Warner (Kurt Warner’s son). Talent edge favors Kansas, but early miscues could make this interesting.

Sam Houston at Western Kentucky

  • 7 p.m. ET, CBSSN

This game features a C-USA clash between 2024 contenders. The Bearkats will be starting anew under Philo Longo with quarterback Hunter Watson (21 total TDs) returning. WKU is reloading after key departures, led by transfer quarterback Maverick McIvor (Abilene Christian). It could easily turn into a shootout if both QBs click.

Stanford at Hawaii

  • 7:30 p.m. ET, CBS

Both Stanford and Hawaii are chasing bowl eligibility, making this opener critical. Stanford is starting its post-David Shaw/ACC turmoil under interim head coach Frank Reich, with quarterback Ben Gulbranson (Oregon State transfer). Hawaii quarterback Micah Alejado will take over full-time after a strong finish to 2024.
