Why did Molly Qerim called Caitlin Clark “lucky”?
The No. 1 seed Iowa Hawkeyes are going up against the No. 3 seed UConn Huskies on Friday, and tensions are growing on and off court.
What a game we have in store for us on Friday night in the Final Four of the women’s NCAA. It’s the Iowa Hawkeyes looking to overcome the UConn Huskies and, as well as the rest of the talent on show, it also pits two of the hottest stars of the moment against each other. Caitlin Clark of the No. 1 seed and Paige Bueckers of the No. 3 seed are getting plaudits aplenty for their performances in the competition thus far, but one commentator’s statement took many by surprise.
“All I gotta say is [Clark] is lucky this UConn team isn’t healthy,” Molly Qerim posited. “If Paige Bueckers didn’t basically miss two seasons, I don’t know if we’d be talking about Caitlin Clark the way we are right now.”
“Lucky” Clark wins back-to-back Player of the Year
It’s worth noting that Clark, who plays guard for the Hawkeyes, has just two wins standing between her and a NCAA tournament triumph. And she has been named The Associated Press Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, highlighting her exceptional talent and contribution to her team’s success.
Leading the Hawkeyes to the second-best record in the Big Ten and securing the top seed in region two of March Madness, Clark’s performance has been nothing short of outstanding. Finishing her final year with remarkable averages of 32 points, 9.0 assists, and 7.3 rebounds, she has solidified her place as one of the most dominant players in college basketball. The 2023-24 Player of the Year award was almost unanimously in her favour, with Clark receiving 35 out of 36 votes, showcasing her undeniable impact on the sport.
Well, as you can imagine, Qerim’s comment didn’t go down too well with fans of the Iowa superstar. Now we await the battle for real, which you’ll be able to follow live.
