2023 NFL Draft: Anthony Richardson player profile | Height, weight, college stats and highlights

Anthony Richardson is the 2023 NFL Draft prospect who claims he’s “not from Earth” and turned heads with his fast, high, and far stats at the Combine.

Of the best draft prospects for the 2023 NFL Draft are three quarterbacks - Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, and Anthony Richardson. While Young and Stroud are likely to go ahead or Richardson based on their experience, the prospect out of Florida is still a potential first-round, even top ten pick. The draft is coming up starting this Thursday with round 1. Let’s take a look at Richardson, who says claims he’s “not from Earth”.

Anthony Richardson was the quarterback at the University of Florida, but didn’t take over as the starter until his final year. He’s the most inexperienced of the three top QB prospects in the 2023 draft, but in that one year, his highlight reel is unbelievable. He actually started out as a wide receiver in high school, but switched to QB before heading to Florida.

After coming on as a redshirt freshman and attempting just 64 passes the next season, Richardson showed out in his last year with the Gators, starting 12 games, throwing for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions plus adding 654 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.

“A lot of people say I’m a different breed. I always tell people I’m not from Earth. I’m gifted, I’m talented. I feel like God made me different, and I just try to use that in my daily life.”

Richardson may have less experience, but he’s come onto the scene in explosive fashion in the last year. He’s known for being a dual-threat quarterback. In addition to his accuracy and arm strength in throwing, Richardson can run. He’s had rushing touchdowns of 45, 60, 73, 80, and 81 yards over the last two seasons. During the University of Florida pro day, he caught the attention of everyone around when he hit the ceiling with the football on one of his ridiculously strong throws.

The NFL Combine’s analysis of Anthony Richardson

In the NFL Combine, Richardson ran the fastest 40-yard dash time and jumped the highest and furthest of all the other quarterbacks.

Dual-threat quarterback with an elite physical profile and a lot of work that needs to be done to reach a potentially high ceiling. Richardson’s frame, arm talent and mobility will demand respect as a potential first-round option. He has the ability to make plays on the move that very few of his NFL peers will be able to make. However, but his accuracy on short and simple throws left much to be desired due, in part, to shoddy footwork and inconsistent rhythm. The footwork issues can be corrected, but the challenge will be determining whether he can be at least a functionally accurate passer at the next level. Richardson’s potential to strike with the deep ball, attack the secondary from sideline to sideline and gash teams with his legs creates greater leeway in his projection as a developmental prospect. Ultimately, he will succeed or fail based on his ability to play with better post-snap recognition and deliver the football with consistency.
