The wide receiver turned running back and then back again has been at the focal point of this off season’s most talked about story, now he has his say.

Deebo Samuel breaks silence on trade rumors

In the wake of his request for a trade from the San Francisco 49ers, there has been no shortage of speculation and rumor surrounding just where Deebo Samuel might end up. Truthfully, the chatter only intensified when it was revealed that the franchise wanted him to stay, but the wide receiver was under no circumstances open to considering the option. It must be said, however, that until now many of those reports did not include any statements from the man himself, even when it was reported earlier this month that he was unhappy with the manner in which the 49ers were utilizing him - Samuel has been used as both a WR and RB - which in the end, makes recent developments all the more interesting. Indeed, after weeks of ‘what ifs,’ Samuel has finally given his own side of what’s going down.

In a statement posted on his official Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon, the 49ers star made frankly clear that the varying versions of the situation between him and the franchise are simply not true. While Samuel did not go as far as to clarify what the actual scenario is, he left no doubt that the version of events that has been purported is far from the truth. “To real to entertain half the stuff y’all be saying but it do be funny though. ...everybody want they voice to be heard about a situation they know nothing about and just be saying whatever the next person say. ...Have a blessed day,” he stated in his post. Again, there has been no further clarification as to where the two parties are at or what the next move will be, but if anything we can assume that it is not as has been previously reported.

Where do the 49ers stand on Deebo Samuel?

Earlier in the week 49ers general manager John Lynch had addressed the Samuel situation during a pre-draft press conference. Similarly to Samuel, Lynch did not go into detail about whether or not the star receiver had in fact requested a trade, but weight was added to the rumor when an anonymous NFL manager recently stated that the 49ers would be on the hunt for two first-round picks should Samuel depart. “We pride ourselves on our communication with our players,” Lynch said. “This is no different. I’m confident we can find the solutions for whatever is going on.”

Where potential destinations are concerned, there will be plenty of possible landing spots if the 49ers decided to cash in on the 26 year old star. Last season, Quite frankly, Samuel is one of the hottest commodities in the league right now. Having registered 1,405 receiving yards and six touchdown receptions, with a league leading average of 18.2 yards per catch the wide receiver also ran - we mentioned he also featured as a running back - for eight scores during the season, before posting two more TDs as the Niners marched to the NFC Championship Game. If San Francisco do trade Samuel, expect a first round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to go in the opposite direction. Indeed, such a deal would make sense for San Francisco having lost their first round pick last year in a deal with Miami that saw Trey Lance in the middle. Watch this space!
