A familiar reinforcement: Commanders bring back Carl Davis
The Washington Commanders are looking to bolster their defense ahead of the 2025 season and have returned to the 33-year-old NFL journeyman.

The 2024 season will go down as one of significant progress for the Washington Commanders, recording a 12-5 regular season and making it to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991.
The team will look to build on an impressive rookie season for quarterback Jayden Daniels but need to bolster their defensive line. The likes of Frankie Luvu and Daron Payne have proved their worth but more options are needed for the Commanders.
On Tuesday the team announced that defensive tackle Carl Davis has rejoined the Commanders following a brief spell in 2024. Davis began his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens, but went on to play for the Browns, Colts, Jaguars, Patriots, Seahawks and Cowboys.

The 33-year-old has now played ten seasons in the league but made only 19 starts across 78 career games. In that time he’s recorded 71 tackles and registered three QB hit and 2.5 sacks. In 2024 he played three games for the Commanders.
Head coach Dan Quinn will hope that Davis can reinforce the defensive unit and he’s got big expectations for 2025. Speaking on the ‘Glue Guys Podcast’ Quinn said: "Honestly, I expect us to be a lot better."
“I am hoping the team we are bringing in will be a really competitive group,” said Quinn. “Like, this is going to be a hard team to make. A lot of positions have some legitimate comp (competition). It’s going to elevate a lot of people. So, if we get that part right, the best teams have huge competitions among positions and in practice, offense and defense. That’s what I hope we can create here.”
