Aaron Rodgers gives his thoughts on the Packers’ 2022 NFL Draft picks
With two defensive picks made by Green Bay, some wondered how their QB would react, but it seems he’s actually excited about the possibilities.

Packers’ Aaron Rodgers is happy with 2022 NFL Draft selections
Back in 2020, it wasn’t hard to tell that Green Packers’ star Aaron Rodgers was not entirely happy with the team’s NFL Draft first-round selection, when they traded up to acquire quarterback Jordan Love. With that said, there were plenty wondering just how the reigning league MVP would react to this year’s selections, but to the surprise of many the QB was totally fine with the franchise’s picks. To add even further context to how shocking that is, one should consider that the Packers didn’t draft a wide receiver as was widely expected, but instead opted to select linebacker Quay Walker at No. 22 and defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt at No. 28. in what can only be described as defensive moves. Remember this is a team that traded Devante Adams and is yet to replace him.
Rodgers actually disclosed that unlike what happened with Love, when he was in the dark about the Packers’ intentions this time around he was aware of what the franchise wanted to do. During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers spoke openly about the Wyatt pick in particular saying, “Well I’ve had a little insight, I’ve been talking with him throughout the night...so I know that they really liked Wyatt early on and were wondering if he was gonna be there, at either pick I believe, and when the linebacker was there in the 20s and all six of those receivers, I believe it was six who they had first round grades on, were gone, I think it was pretty obvious that they wanted to sure up those two spots in their mind...I’m sure Packer nation will be wondering why we didn’t take a receiver or trade up or whatnot, but at this point you just gotta have some faith in the organization.” Rodgers continued with a smile as he acknowledged Wyatt’s presence at 6′3′ and weighing in at 315 pounds. “I think this kid’s pretty big. Is he a dog though...is he like a cocker spaniel or something else?”
Aaron Rodgers is already plotting for next season
With his mind squarely set on the coming season, the Packers’ QB was open about his thoughts regarding how the two new young talents could be utilized in the best possible way going forward. For his part the 38 year old made clear that his intention is to work in whatever way is required with the new acquisitions so that the Packers can continue to be a team that competes in the playoffs. “Obviously our defense is going to be really good, and defense wins championships,” he said while contemplating the idea of pushing for a Super Bowl title in the coming season.
Rodgers again stressed how different the circumstances were this year when compared with where the Packers were at before heading into the last season. “There was a lot of things from last year that weren’t expected for sure. It definitely wasn’t the smoothest year at times. But I do feel good about where I’m at with Green Bay,” he said. “I’m excited to get back to there and get things going. We’ve got a lot to play for, a lot of exciting things.”
