Aaron Rodgers makes bold admission on New York Jets future
The four-time NFL MVP turns 41 next week and is already starting to put some thought into a return for 2025.
The 2024 NFL season has not gone to plan for the New York Jets. They sit third in AFC East with a 3-8 record and have already been forced into significant changes.
In October head coach Robert Saleh was fired and general manager Joe Douglas was dismissed the following month. These decisions were, at least in part, inspired by a desire to get the best out of veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The four-time NFL MVP turns 41 next Monday but there remains hope that he can push the team to a second-ever Super Bowl triumph, the teams first since 1968. But appearing on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ this week Rodgers admitted that he hadn’t even decided if he wanted to continue playing.
“I don’t even know if I want to play yet, but New York would be my first option,” Rodgers said, when pressed on his plans for next season. “You want to be in a spot where you feel like you can win and you’re valued.”

After a tumultuous couple of months things do not get any easier for the Jets, who welcome the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, December 1. The Seahawks are top of the NFC West after impressive victories over the San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals in recent weeks.
With little hope of a playoff spot for the Jets, thoughts are already starting to turn to next season. Last week there were rumours that Rodgers was hoping to find a new team for 2025 but the QB insisted that he is not planning a move.
“When you’re 40, going on 41, you’re obviously at the end of your career,” Rodgers explained.
“Obviously, if it’s New York, they have to want me to be here. And then the new GM, new staff all have to want me to be with the Jets. And then body-wise, I have to see how I’m feeling and if I want to sign up to go back to the grind and all that, but it feels good. I’m healthy now.”
The Jets are currently led by interim GM Phil Savage and interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich. Once permanent replacements have been found for those key positions Rodgers will have a better idea of his likely role within the team. Until then, his future with the New York Jets remains unclear.
