The Pittsburgh Steelers have taken a bold new direction for the 2025 NFL season, making headline-grabbing moves to reshape their roster. They landed cornerback Jalen Ramsey and wide receiver D.K. Metcalf via trades, and brought in quarterback Aaron Rodgers through free agency.

Just a few days into training camp in Latrobe, Rodgers already sees championship potential in his new team. Speaking to the media, the quarterback made it clear that while every team talks about making the Super Bowl, only a few can truly back it up – and he believes Pittsburgh is one of them.

“I think most of the 32 teams would probably say something similar,” Rodgers said when asked about reaching the Super Bowl. “But I really believe there are only six to eight teams that have a real chance. Sometimes it’s 10 or 12. There are always teams that surprise you. I’d say on paper, we’re probably one of those 10,” forgetting his previously stated tighter shortlist.

The Steelers finished the last two seasons with identical 10–7 records, only to be eliminated in the Wild Card round both times. The larger concern is that Pittsburgh hasn’t won a playoff game since 2016, when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.

Rodgers’ first throw picked off in camp

Not everything went smoothly in Rodgers’ first full practice against the defense in Latrobe. His very first pass of the session was intercepted – a sharp play by linebacker Patrick Queen. Still, Rodgers brushed it off, framing it as a test throw. After all, he holds the record for the lowest interception rate in NFL history among starting quarterbacks.

“Anyone who’s watched me practice over the years knows I like to try out certain throws at certain times,” he said. “And anyone who’s watched me in games knows I’ve been pretty brilliant at protecting the football.”

Over his career, Rodgers has thrown 503 touchdown passes and just 116 interceptions on 8,245 attempts – a remarkable interception rate of only 1.4%.
