Aikman joins Dolphins in GM search, but can he still broadcast games with ESPN?
The Hall of Fame quarterback and ESPN color commentator Troy Aikman has been hired by the Miami Dolphins to help the team find their next general manager.
It’s been an awfully turbulent season for the Miami Dolphins who came in to this season with their coach already on the hot seat and plenty of questions surrounding their one time dominant offense. Now they have brought in Hall of Fame QB, and broadcaster Troy Aikman to help straighten the ship in South Beach.
Dolphins look to Aikman after rough year
Miami lost their first three games of the season and six of their first seven. That eventually led to the parting of ways with the Dolphins and their general manager Chris Grier.
The Dolphins were able to turn things around a bit, winning four in a row after the chance in the front office was made. That put them on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, but still gave them hope until they lost to Pittsburgh and Cincinnati right before Christmas.
The Miami Dolphins have brought on Hall-of-Fame QB and ESPN analyst Troy Aikman as a consultant to advise the organization on its general manager search process, per sources.

They head into the final week of the season with a 7-9 record, which looks a lot more respectable than the path they were heading at the start of the season, but the decent end to the season doesn’t mask the need for change in Miami. That’s where Troy Aikman comes in.
Aikman still on for NFC 1 seed battle
Aikman has been hired to assist the Dolphins and owner Stephen Ross find the next general manager, to help bring a little stability to the front offices at Hard Rock Stadium.
The former Dallas Cowboy QB was a first round draft picks that led his team to three Super Bows in a Hall of Fame career. He retired in 2000 and instantly turned into one of the best broadcasters on television, joining Joe Buck on FOX’s lead announcing crew first and then joined ESPN’s Monday Night Football crew a few years back.

Aikman joining the Dolphins to help in the GM search isn’t going to keep him from being able to commentate games for ESPN in the for the rest of the season or in the future. Aikman and his partner Buck are scheduled to call the Saturday night showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers as the NFC West rivals battle for the one seed in the NFC.
