Bailey Zappe joins the Kansas City Chiefs
The quarterback was only released by the New England Patriots yesterday but has already found a new destination.
The Kansas City Chiefs have finalized their 53-man roster for their bid for a three-peat. Today, just 24 hours later, they began adding players to the practice squad. One of the first to be brought in was quarterback Bailey Zappe.
The 26-year-old was released by New England Patriots only yesterday and has taken no time to secure an agreement with the Chiefs, NFL Network reported.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterbacks
Zappe is a two-year veteran who started eight of his 14 games with the Patriots. During his time in Foxborough, the Western Kentucky graduate rushed for 2,053 yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
In addition to the addition of Zappe, the Chiefs also signed running back Samaje Perine, NFL Network reports. The running back is a seven-year veteran of the Denver Broncos and will provide depth behind Isaiah Pachecho, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and fullback Carson Steele.
Zappe’s addition was necessary since the Chiefs have just two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, and it never hurts to have an experienced quarterback. Two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes is the undisputed starter, and Carson Wentz is the veteran behind the No. 15.
KC will be aiming to become the first franchise in history to win three consecutive Super Bowls. Since 2018, the Chiefs have been to every AFC Championship, and have played in four Super Bowls - win three of them.
