Whether you agree or disagree, the fact that Lamar Jackson is often mentioned in the conversation of ‘Best dual-threat quarterback in history’, should tell you that there is something special about the Baltimore Ravens signal caller.

John Harbaugh has a challenge for Lamar Jackson

In what will mark his seventh season with the Baltimore Ravens, Lamar Jackson has found himself facing a rather interesting challenge from head coach John Harbaugh i.e., Establishing himself as the best quarterback the NFL and its fans have ever seen. Simple. Right?

“The vision that we have together is that Lamar Jackson is going to become and be known and be recognized as the greatest quarterback ever to play in the history of the National Football League,” Harbaugh said to the media recently. “That’s the vision. It’s going to happen by Lamar, his work ethic, and his brilliant talent, by all of us pouring into that effort, together as a team, teamwork, and by the grace of God and God’s goodwill. That’s how it’s going to happen. And I believe it like we’ve already seen it.”

Now, before we get carried away with varying takes on Harbaugh’s lofty praise, let’s take a look at the facts and stats to date. At 27 years old, Lamar Jackson has already been named league MVP on two occasions, played in three Pro Bowls, and set the NFL record for single-season rushing yards by a quarterback with 1,206 yards in 2019. Yet, there is no way to avoid the obvious critique which is that despite his clear ability and prime condition, Jackson has yet to dominate in the postseason. Indeed, the former Louisville standout has only been to the playoffs once in his career so far which incidentally, was just last season when they lost in the AFC Championship Game to eventual Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.

This is all to say, that until he can add trophies to his growing list of accolades, the doubts about his pedigree will continue. Consider for a moment that the man many believe to be the best player in NFL history, the now-retired Tom Brady, has a record seven Super Bowl titles to his name. That’s quite a tally and one that will take some doing to match, regardless of who we’re talking about. So, can Jackson fulfill his obvious promise and by doing so complete his coach’s challenge? We’re not sure, but we know it’s going to be something to watch him try.
