Bill Belichick makes bold announcement about NFL future amid Giants speculation
The six-time Super Bowl-winning coach releases statement addressing rumors connecting him to the Giants head coach job.

Bill Belichick has revealed he has no interest in returning to the NFL after turning down the chance to replace Brian Daboll as head coach of the New York Giants.
The current North Carolina Tar Heels coach, who won the Super Bowl a record six times with the New England Patriots, told reporters last week he “didn’t come here to leave” ahead of his team’s game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday.
Commitment to UNC remains strong
Belichick took things a step further in a social media statement Friday, making it clear he has no plans to return to the NFL.
“Despite circulating rumors, I have not and will not pursue any NFL head coaching vacancies,” the 73-year-old wrote. “Since arriving in Chapel Hill, my commitment to the UNC football program has not wavered. My focus remains solely on continuing to improve this team, develop our players, and build a program that makes Tar Heel fans proud.”
Belichick remembers Giants roots
Early in his coaching career, Belichick spent 11 years with the Giants, five as defensive coordinator, a period he referenced in his statement.
“I have great respect and genuinely care for the New York Giants organization and both the Mara and Tisch families. The New York Giants played an important role in my coaching journey. It was a privilege for me to work for the Mara family and be a member of Coach Parcells’ staff for over a decade.”
The numbers that got Daboll fired
The Giants will have to look elsewhere for a replacement for Daboll, who was fired after leading the team to a 2-8 record through 10 games for the third consecutive season. Hired in January 2022, Daboll finished with a 20-40-1 record, which got progressively worse: 11-33 since the start of 2023 and 5-22 since the beginning of 2024.
