WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM NEW ORLEANS!!!!

as.com

Tonight's odds

The Saints might be at home, but that doesn’t mean that they are the favorites to win the game tonight in New Orleans. On a four game win streak, with a rookie QB in under center, the Saints are 2.5 point home dogs with the Over/Under set at 37.

The Saints losing streak isn’t going to last forever, but it’s not coming to an end tonight. Denver’s defense is going to make life tough for Spencer Rattler as the zero in on Kamara and make sure that he doesn’t take the game over out of the backfield. Nix will do just enough to win, as he has in the first three wins of the season and the Broncos will drop the Saints to their fifth straight win.

Broncos win 17-10.

Head to head series

These two franchises have both been around for a long, long time but because they are in different conferences, they have only played each other 12 times. The Broncos lead the series 9-3 dating back to their first match up in 1970, but it was the Saints that had the last laugh in the last match up between these two teams. The Saints crushed the Broncos 31-3 from Mile High Stadium back in 2020 to snap a five game losing streak to Denver. Tonight they will be trying to snap another long losing streak, and get back into the win column for the first time since early September.

NFL Standings

Taking a look at the standings in both the AFC and NFC, there are just two undefeated teams remaining through the first third of the season. The Broncos are sitting at 3-3 sitting behind the undefeated Chiefs and the Chargers that just beat them last week. The Saints have fallen to the bottom of the NFC South after their four game collapse, and now trail the Falcons and the Bucs by two games. Both of these teams need a win tonight to keep pace with the rest of their respective divisions.

Star watch: Saints

It would be a bit premature to put Spencer Rattler in the star watch portion of the preview considering he has played exactly 4 quarters in the NFL. So let’s move on to the backfield and Alvin Kamara who is one of the best two way running backs in the league. He racks up yards on the ground and through the air, but curiously enough he has never had a 1,000 yard season rushing the ball. This could be his first year reaching that landmark, especially if the rookie QB is forced to stay under center for more than a couple weeks. So far, he has 428 yards on 104 rushes with 6 TDs, and another 238 yards receiving with another TD.

Star watch: Broncos

Bo Nix has been impressive in his first month and a half in the NFL. He was drafted by a quarterback coach, Sean Payton, and on a team that has both John Elway and Payton Manning. That’s quite a bit of pressure for a young QB, but he has been handling it well. His numbers aren’t staggering, but he is doing what needs to be done to keep his team in games. So far he has 1,082 yards and 5 TDs with 5 INTs while completing 61.1% of his passes.

Season recap: Broncos

We had no idea what to expect from the Broncos who had gone through a myriad of quarterback problems over the last few years. They brought in rookie Bo Nix to lead their offense, but not a whole lot was known about the former Oregon Duck. What we know now is that Nix is a mature QB, with the ability to throw or use his feet to move the ball while managing the game and limiting mistakes on the offensive end. The defense is the dominant force for the Broncos. The three losses they have suffered, to the Seahawks, Steelers and Chargers, all came in a one possession game. Their three wins against the Bucs, Jets and Raiders came in games in which the defense allowed just over 11 ppg.

Season recap: Saints

A lot can happen in the span of a month just ask the New Orleans Saints. They dropped 91 points in their first two wins over the Panthers and the Cowboys and there was talk of this team being a real contender in the NFC. Since then, they have spiraled into a four game losing streak. Their first loss came to the Eagles in a defensive struggle from NO, then came a narrow loss to the Atlanta Falcons in the last few minutes of the game, and then the Chiefs beat them up in Arrowhead in a game that Derek Carr was hurt in the fourth quarter. That kept him out last game and the Saints were incapable of hanging with the Bucs high flying offense.

Last game: Saints

It was a wild one from the Caesar’s Superdome on Sunday. With no Derek Carr, the Saints were going to have to come up with ways to score the football and managed to score all 27 of their points in the second quarter. After the Bucs took a 17-0 first quarter lead, New Orleans scored three touchdowns and two FGs thanks to a punt return for a TD by Rashid Shaheed and an interception two plays later. They went into the halftime break with a 27-24 lead, but the offense stopped scoring and the Bucs dropped 51 points on the Saints defense. Spencer Rattler went 22/40 for 243 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs in his debut, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Saints in the game all 60 minutes.

Last game: Broncos

After a three game win streak, the Broncos came out flat against a Chargers team that was coming off a BYE and were down by two scores in the blink of an eye. Bo Nix threw a pick on the opening series of the game, one of two first half turnovers that allowed Justin Herbert and JK Dobbins to build up a 20-0 lead. Nix and the offense finally woke up at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but by that time it was too late. They cut the lead to 23-16 but ran out of time as the Chargers held on to improve to a game over .500 which the Broncos fell to 3-3.

We are live from the Bayou

Hello everyone and welcome to the Big Easy where nothing has been easy for the Saints over the last month. There was a time very early in the season in which the Saints were being talked about as Super Bowl contenders after two blowout wins in the opening weeks of the season. Since then things have gone south in a hurry and they come into tonight needing a win, and needing their back up, rookie quarterback to lead them to the win. Denver a rookie quarterback of their own, and after a bumpy start Bo Nix and the Broncos rattled off three straight wins before losing their last game to the LA Chargers in Week 6. Will the Saints snap their losing spell or will the Broncos add to the misery in New Orleans?
