McCaffrey played only four games for the San Francisco 49ers last season having starred in the run to the Super Bowl the year before.

Update:

Having reached Super Bowl LVIII at the start of 2024, the San Francisco 49ers flattered to deceive in the 2024/25 NFL season, not even qualifying for the postseason. Injury problems suffered by Christian McCaffrey, one of the team’s stars in the previous campaign, hardly helped matters.

Christian McCaffrey’s injury troubles

During last summer’s training camp, the running back sustained a calf and Achilles injury which prevented him from playing in preseason and ultimately kept him out until Week 10.

Following his return, he played only four games before suffering a posterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee, which saw him placed on injured reserve and ended his season prematurely, with the 49ers not reaching the playoffs.

McCaffrey’s positive news in 2025

There has, though, been some good news for the 28-year-old in the first few months of 2025. On March 10, McCaffrey and wife Olivia Culpo, a.k.a. Miss Universe 2012, announced they were expecting their first child together, shortly before the NFL player offered a fitness update in the shape of training photos on Instagram.

McCaffrey’s snaps showed him doing a number of different workouts and suggests he has already managed to get himself back into top shape, with his fitness issues seemingly behind him.

McCarthy offers San Francisco 49ers hope for next season

In February, former New York Giants, Denver Broncos and 49ers wide receiver Ed McCarthy, Christian’s father, revealed to Front Office Sports his son was “doing great” following his spell on the sidelines.

“He should be healthy by next week and have a full offseason to train. I still have PTSD from last year’s Super Bowl so I haven’t recovered yet, but he has recovered and he’s healthy.

“It was a tough season, but he’s in great shape. He’s going to have a full offseason and I think their team is really going to come back strong next season."
