Cininnati mayor Aftab Pureval back tracked on his “Burrowhead” joke but what did he say after the Bengals lost?

With the Chiefs getting the last laugh in their duel with his Bengals, Cincinnati’s mayor was forced to concede in the cheeky war of words that he had with the new AFC Champions.

Cincinnati’s mayor may have rushed the brush when he referred to Arrowhead stadium as “Burrowhead” prior to his team’s AFC Championship date with the Chiefs. No wonder one of Kansas City’s stars has given him a piece of his mind, to which the city official responded with an above-board answer.

It would appear that Cincinnati Mayor, Aftab Pureval, finally realized that he probably bit off more than he could chew, when he engaged in a funny war of words with the Kansas City Chiefs and their fans. If you missed it, Pureval referred to the Chiefs’ home stadium as “Burrowhead” in a post on social media prior to the AFC Championship game on Sunday. Following their 23-20 victory over the Bengals, a number of Chiefs players didn’t waste time in clapping back at the city official, something that he admitted he deserved before congratulating the team.

What did the Chiefs player think about “Burrowhead?

If you’re going to talk the talk, then you better be prepared to walk the walk as they say. Unfortunately for Pureval and his Bengals, that wasn’t the case. Indeed, the Chiefs made no secret of the special motivation that the “Burrowhead” comment gave them. From Jason Kelce, to Chris Jones and even Patrick Mahomes himself, there was definitely a collective agreement on the Chiefs’ part, that Cincy’s mayor had crossed a line. To be fair to Pureval, the Bengals were 3-0 against the Chiefs until Sunday night.

All jokes aside, one could tell there was something personal in this one. After all, it was the Bengals who dismissed the Chiefs at this same stage last year, something which clearly weighed on their minds heading into the game. As for how the game went, it would be fair to say it was a mixed bag, between great play and strange calls. Mahomes for his part, was stellar with two touchdowns on 326 passing yards and a sprained ankle to boot. Indeed, it was his run on the final offensive play of the game that led to a late hit and subsequent penalty. Via that call, the Chiefs were able to set up the game winning field goal for Harrison Butker. “We wanted to play this team, and we got ‘em at Arrowhead Stadium and we were able to finish the job this time,” Mahomes said. “And the job’s not finished for us.”
