Cleveland Browns announce signing of QB Joshua Dobbs to one-year deal
The Cleveland Browns have signed a one-year deal with former Steelers’ quarterback Joshua Dobbs, who has a bigger goal in mind.
The Cleveland Browns and Joshua Dobbs have agreed to a one-year deal. The former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback had intended to sign with the Baltimore Ravens a few weeks ago, but decided to finally go with another AFC North team, Cleveland.
Dobbs is set to be the Brown’s third quarterback behind Deshaun Watson and Jacoby Brissett after Cleveland trades or releases Baker Mayfield, who has not been happy about the way the Browns treated him.
The 27-year-old QB spent all of last season on injured reserve, after appearing with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2020. Since being drafted out of Tennessee in 2017, Dobbs has only appeared in six games, including Pitssburgh, who chose him with the No. 135 overall pick in the fourth round of that year’s NFL Draft.
During the 2018 season, Dobbs completed 50% of passes- six of 12- for 43 yards and zero touchdowns to one interception, as a second-year pro. He also completed four rushes for 11 yards (2.8 average).
In 2019, the Jacksonville Jaguars acquired the quarterback in a September trade, for a fifth-round 2020 NFL Draft pick.
Dobbs wants “to be a starting QB in the NFL”
Dobbs’ new move represents more than just joining Cleveland. “My goal is to be a starting quarterback in the NFL,” said Dobbs. “There are only 32 of them and I want to be one of those 32. So that’s what I’m working for every single day. It’s funny — you go from engineering every single day to going over to the gym, you have to get your workout in. Days obviously can get stretched out, but it goes back to college. I understand how it is to juggle both sides of it — how it is to work toward a dream, to work toward a goal.
“So every single day, I’m stacking chips. Whether it’s in the engineering world making sure I’m getting my training, my conditioning, being able to be prepared once our offseason regiment starts in April. Hit the ground running and be able to go in and dominate once the season comes.”
