Commanders fear worst after Ekeler goes down in loss to Packers

Estados Unidos Update:

The Washington Commanders were dealt a potential major setback after Austin Ekeler reportedly suffered a torn Achilles tendon during their 27-18 Thursday night loss to the Green Bay Packers.

How long is Ekeler out for Commanders?

The 30-year-old was taken to the locker room on a cart and was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game. He will undergo tests in the coming hours to confirm the extent of the injury.

If the tests confirm a torn Achilles, Ekeler could be sidelined for the rest of the season – recovery timelines typically range from nine to twelve months. Similar injuries have derailed other high-profile running backs, including Baltimore’s J.K. Dobbins, who tore his Achilles in Week 1 of the 2023 season and missed the entire year. For a 30-year-old like Ekeler, the road back could be even more demanding.

Ekeler led the team in carries Thursday with eight but managed just 17 rushing yards. He joined Washington last season, recording a total of 733 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns.

Who will replace Ekeler?

If the veteran is forced to miss extended time, the Commanders may lean more heavily on Jacory Croskey-Merritt, a rookie seventh-round pick who impressed during preseason. Against Green Bay, he rushed four times for 17 yards.
