Dak Prescott injury update: Will the Cowboys QB play against the Bucs?
Having seemingly shaken off an ankle issue, Dallas’ signal caller will hope to lead his side to victory over Tampa Bay in their Week 1 clash.
Some positive news for the Cowboys as they prepare to face their nemesis in the form of the Bucs’ legendary quarterback, Tom Brady.
The Cowboys’ injury report is promising
On Sunday night, the Dallas Cowboys will play host at their AT&T Stadium to NFC South reigning champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as they kick off their 2022 NFL regular season. Fans will know of course, that this huge matchup is a rematch of last season’s thrilling Week 1 game against the said same Buccaneers. One has to imagine, however, that the Dallas faithful will be hoping the Cowboys don’t come out the same way they did last season, when they lost 31-29 in what turned out be one of the most dramatic games of the campaign.
With that said, there chances of doing so certainly look a little better with the news that quarterback Dak Prescott should be good to go after full participation in Friday’s practice. Indeed, Prescott was not listed on the final injury report after suffering an ankle issue recently. Alongside Prescott, the Cowboys also got good news regarding Jourdan Lewis and his problematic hamstring. The one concern is still Jayson Kearse who did not participate in the latest training session.
How do the Cowboys stack up against the Bucs?
To be clear, the Cowboys’ defense is about to undergo a serious examination of its credentials and even more so, if Kearse remains unavailable. In case you didn’t know, Tom Brady has never lost to Dallas in the 22 seasons that he has played in the NFL. Though the Bucs have had to rejig a few things, following the loss of some of their offensive tools, the acquisition of seven-time Pro Bowl receiver Julio Jones during the offseason will certainly help to smooth over some of the cracks.
With that said, the Cowboys believe that they are working with the “fastest defense in the NFL.” Indeed, if linebacker Micah Parsons, who finished with 13 sacks last season is anything to go by, the aforementioned exam is one that they should be able to pass. If in fact Prescott can overcome any remaining discomfort and play in the manner he did last season, which is to say average 31.2 points per game, the Cowboys will have a good chance. The only thing to remember is that the Bucs averaged 30.1 points per game and that’s to say, these are the two top scoring offenses going head-to-head in Week 1 for the first time in league history.
