Dallas Cowboys OTAs 2026: Full schedule, key dates, and biggest storylines to watch
Dallas returns to the field in June with major questions to answer. Here’s the full OTA schedule and the biggest storylines to monitor.
The offseason is nearly over in Arlington, and for the Dallas Cowboys, the next phase of preparation begins in early June. After back-to-back seasons without a playoff appearance, the pressure is mounting for Dallas to turn offseason optimism into actual results. Organized Team Activities (OTAs) will provide the first glimpse at how this revamped roster and coaching approach might come together ahead of the 2026 NFL season.
Cowboys OTAs and offseason schedule
The Cowboys will officially begin OTAs on June 1, kicking off a stretch of voluntary workouts that run through mid-June. While these sessions are not mandatory, they are often a strong indicator of player buy-in and early chemistry.
OTAs are scheduled for June 1, 2, 4, 8, 9, and 11. These practices will be followed by mandatory minicamp from June 16 through June 20, where attendance is required and intensity typically ramps up.
Training camp dates have yet to be announced, but Dallas is expected to follow their usual late-July reporting timeline before heading into preseason action in August.
The preseason slate includes matchups against the Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals, and New Orleans Saints.
Cowboys preseason schedule:
- Week 1 - Saturday, August 15, 8:00 p.m. ET @ Seattle Seahawks
- Week 2 - Saturday, August 22, 9:00 p.m. ET @ Arizona Cardinals
- Week 3 - Friday, August 28, 7:00 p.m. ET vs. New Orleans Saints
What to Watch at Cowboys OTAs
Dak Prescott and offensive chemistry
All eyes will be on Dak Prescott as he returns to lead the offense. While Prescott remains one of the league’s most respected quarterbacks, the Cowboys need greater consistency and explosiveness. OTAs will be the first opportunity to evaluate his chemistry with both returning weapons and new additions.
Wide receiver questions and George Pickens’ status
One of the most talked-about situations heading into OTAs is the wide receiver room. George Pickens’ participation will be closely monitored, even though workouts remain voluntary. His presence, or absence, could set the tone for how stable this group looks heading into minicamp.
Depth players such as Jonathan Mingo are also under pressure. With limited production to date, OTAs could be a pivotal stretch in determining whether he sticks on the roster or gets overtaken in a crowded position battle.
Defensive identity under Christian Parker
The Cowboys’ defense enters 2026 with renewed expectations under new coordinator Christian Parker. Known for his expertise in defensive backs, Parker is expected to bring a more aggressive and adaptable scheme. This puts added focus on the secondary, where roster spots are far from settled.
Position battles across the roster
OTAs are often where under-the-radar competitions begin to take shape, and the Cowboys will have several. Cornerback, wide receiver depth, and back-end roster spots are all expected to feature intense competition.
Buy-in and culture
Perhaps the most important, and least measurable, storyline is overall team buy-in. OTAs often reveal which players are committed to the program and which situations may become distractions. Early unity can make a significant difference. Strong attendance and engagement would signal that Dallas is serious about reversing their recent struggles.
OTAs won’t determine the Cowboys’ season, but they will shape the narrative heading into training camp. From quarterback leadership to defensive cohesion and roster battles, this is where the foundation gets laid. For a franchise accustomed to high expectations, simply “winning the offseason” won’t be enough. The Cowboys need progress that carries into the fall, and it all starts when they take the field in June.
