Daniel Jones, the Colts, and the early stat that links them to the Super Bowl
Jones has silenced critics with a perfect 3-0 start, but the Colts now face their toughest challenge yet.

When it was announced that Daniel Jones would be the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, experts immediately wrote off their playoff hopes. Some even predicted they would finish last in their division. Today, they are among the NFL’s best teams this season.
The Colts are off to a 3-0 start, something they hadn’t managed since 2009, when Peyton Manning led the offense to a 14-2 record. That year, Indianapolis reached the Super Bowl, where they lost 31-17 to Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.
The schedule may have helped, with wins over the Tennessee Titans and the Miami Dolphins, but in Week 2 they passed a real test against Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos – favorites in the AFC West, despite sitting at 1-2.
Why Colts fans can dream
It’s far too early to call Indianapolis a true contender for the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but their strong start is encouraging, and several factors suggest fans have reason to be optimistic.
Jonathan Taylor may be the best running back in the league. He leads the NFL in rushing yards with 338 so far, taking pressure off Jones in his first season.
In three games this year, Indianapolis has punted only once – in last Sunday’s 40-21 road win over Tennessee.
This Sunday will be a real test for Jones. The Colts face the Los Angeles Rams, who currently rank fifth in the NFL in yards allowed per game (268.3) and lead the league in quarterback sacks with 12.
