Deion Sanders goes off over reports of his son not acting professionally: “You’re going to tell me he was unprepared?”
Shedeur Sanders’ shock drop to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft raised some questions about his pre-draft meetings.
The fate of Shedeur Sanders was one of the biggest talking points heading into the 2025 NFL Draft and his surprising slide to the fifth round has only intensified those debates.
Sanders, although not perfect, was widely expected to be a first round pick at the draft but rumors have since emerged about alleged antics during his pre-draft interviews. NFL legend Deion Sanders - Shedeur’s son and former coach - has poured cold water on allegations of unprofessionalism.
“When you sit up there and say something like he went into a meeting unprepared, like, dude,” Deion told the ‘Say What Needs To Be Said’ podcast. “Shedeur Sanders? Who has had six different coordinators, who has still functioned and went up, leveled up every time we brought somebody new in, and you’re going to tell me he was unprepared?”
“You’re going to tell me he had on headphones? Anybody who knows my son understands he’s a professional. He’s gonna go into a meeting with headphones on? Y’all, come on now.”
So what’s the truth? Shedeur Sanders was a top quarterback in the college game but he lacked the athleticism and elite throwing ability to truly be considered a lock first round pick. Beyond that, reports about his meetings are varied, with some claims (like the ‘headphones’ allegation) seemingly made-up.
But others are more credible. NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero has quoted an NFL assistant coach as saying that Shedeur Sanders’ pre-draft meeting was “the worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life.”
