DK Metcalf given update on his suspension by NFL
The Pittsburgh Steelers star is facing a ban after an altercation with a fan.
Pittsburgh’s offence will look very different in the final leg of the regular season after the NFL decided to uphold a two-game suspension of wide receiver DK Metcalf, meaning he will miss Weeks 17 and 18 as the Steelers chase a playoff spot.
The disciplinary process came in response to a shocking altercation with a fan during the Steelers’ recent away win in Detroit. Video evidence from that game showed Metcalf approaching a man in the stands, grabbing his shirt and appearing to strike him, actions the NFL characterised as a clear breach of the policy that forbids players from engaging physically with spectators.
Metcalf and his representatives quickly moved to appeal the suspension, but that appeal was rejected by an independent officer designated by the NFL and the NFL Players Association, meaning the original punishment stands and Metcalf will not be available for two crucial games, against the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens.

“I certainly don’t condone the behaviour, but I support DK”
According to his contract, and reported by CBS and ESPN, Metcalf will forfeit $555,556 in salary. The suspension also voids $45 million in future guaranteed money.
“He did explain to me why he did what he did. And I certainly don’t condone the behaviour, but I support DK,” head coach Mike Tomlin said. “And I really don’t have a lot to add other than what I just told you.”
“He’s been great,” Tomlin added. “He cares. He works hard. He’s a heck of a guy. He’s a good teammate, and that’s why he’s easy to support. I just think volatile rhetoric is a component of our business today, unfortunately. It just is. But not only our business, college, youth sport parents. I think it’s just a component of sport that’s developed, and developed in a big way in recent years, and it’s unfortunate.”
