The Miami Dolphins were dealt a huge blow when quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered from a concussion in their Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, that makes Tagovailoa’s third concussion of his NFL career. He also suffered for one in 2019 when he played college ball for Alabama.

One of the concussions he suffered in 2023 caused the league to actually change its protocol. Both the short-term and long-term risks if Tagovailoa continues playing in the NFL are extremely high and dangerous. Several former NFL players have called on the 26-year-old to retire.

Tagovailoa has said he does not plan to retire, but is meeting with specialists before deciding anything official about his future in the league.

Amidst all the uncertainty, the Dolphins have signed quarterback Tyler Huntley off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad.

Will Huntley play for the Dolphins on Sunday vs Seahawks?

The Dolphins’ current QB2 Skylar Thompson is set to start in Tagovailoa’s absence when they take on the Seattle Seahawks on the road this Sunday. However, NFL Network has reported that Huntley could find his way into the mix as well.

Whether or not Huntley plays at all will likely depend on how Thompson does in the next few weeks.

Who is Tyler Huntley?

Huntley signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He was moved to the practice squad but elevated to the active roster when their other quarterbacks were dealing with injuries and Covid-19 illnesses.

The 26-year-old has only played in 20 games in his career since then. He earned Pro Bowl honors in 2022 when he played in six games (four starts) and threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another. In his career, Huntley has a 64.6% completion rate for 1,957 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions and has run for 503 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Earlier this year, Huntley signed with the Cleveland Browns, but was released after making the final roster due to a lack of trade interest. In August, the Ravens signed him as their third-string quarterback.
