Dolphins 14 vs 21 Chiefs summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 9

The Dolphins had a chance to tie up the game on their final drive, but a bad snap forced Tua to have to fall on the ball and the Chiefs held on to take the 21-14 win in Frankfurt. 

KC currently hold the lead in the AFC halfway through the season, while the Dolphins are going to have a lot of questions to answer about their ability to beat good teams after losing to the Bills, Eagles, and the Chiefs this year. 

It looked for a moment that the turnover wasn't going to cost the Chiefs, after KC stopped MIA on 3rd and 20, but a late hit by Chris Jones extended the Dolphins drive and a play later, Raheem Mostert took this 14 yard run into the end zone to bring the Dolphins to within a TD before the 4th quarter. 

A couple of minutes after the Dolphins TD, it was Bradley Chubb who came up with the big defensive play for Miami. He stripped Mahomes and the fumble was recovered by Zach Sieler to set up the second TD of the Dolphins day. 

The Dolphins needed to show some sign of life, and finally after more than 40 minutes, Tua found Jeff Wilson Jr. in the endzone to put point on the board for the league's most explosive offense. They don't need much to get hot, and they would make life difficult for the Chiefs the rest of the way. 

For the first time all game, the Dolphins were finally moving the ball down the field, but their drive came crashing to a halt when former Chief, Tyreek Hill who said he wouldn't be able to sleep if he didn't score against his old team, fumbled and the Chiefs made a collective effort to scoop it and score it thanks to a lateral from Mike Edwards to Bryan Cook who took it to the house. 

Both the Chiefs and the Dolphins offense went quiet for a long spell in the first half, and there were seven straight punts before Patrick Mahomes led a 13 play, 95 yard drive that was capped off with this 18 yard TD pass to Jerick McKinnon who went into the endzone untouched. 

Mahomes went for 185 yards on 20/30 passing and with two TDs passes, hitting 11 different receivers. Noah Gray was the leading receiver with 34 yards, and Travis Kelce had just 14 yards on 3 catches. 

The Chiefs won this game with their defense. They kept this Dolphins offense that is on record setting pace off the scoreboard for the first two quarters of the game, and came up with the game changing play later in the game. 

After getting held out of the end zone in their loss to the Bronocs last week, the Chiefs came out firing thanks to a brilliant drive led by Patrick Mahomes who went 5/6 in a three minute drive that ended with this 11 yard Rashee Rice TD catch and run. 

IT'S ALL OVER!!!

The Kansas City Chiefs are going to jump to 7-2 and currently have the lead in the AFC at least for the moment. The Dolphins lost their third game of the season, and they will be questioned yet again as to whether or not they can beat good teams. 

Tua fumbles the bad snap and recovered it, but was tackled in the backfield and the Chiefs are going to win this game!!!

Tua seeking Wilson in the endzone but that was well under thrown and the Dolphins have 4th and 10 from the KC 31 with the game on the line. 

Tua going for Waddle on the slant down field and he lost his feet as the ball came zipping in.

Tua threw it to Mostert off his back foot and that was almost picked by McDuffy.

Mosters gets the handoff on the left side and he takes it up the sideline for a 25 yard gain! That is going to take us to the Two Minute Warning here from Frankfurt!

1st and 20 form the 50 after the huge play to start the drive!

MIA get the ball back from their 25 yard line with 2:28 to go in the 4th quarter!

Mahomes had some time but the pressure finally came and he had to throw it away as MIA comes up with a big stop!

Pacheco gets a couple yards but is short of the marker.

Mahomes finds Kelce on a first down TE screen and he gets 7 yards.

Hardman fielded it at his own 1, and takes it to the 10 yard line. 

KC need some first downs, MIA need a stop with 4:10 left in this game. 

Tua's pass to the sideline for Waddle sailed on him and the Dolphins are going to have to punt with under 4:30 to go. 

KC brings the blitz and it's Wharton who brings down Tua and the Dolphins are looking at 3rd and forever!

After Chris Jones was flagged for a late hit on a play that would have brought up 4th and 10, it's Mostert who takes it 13 yards for the TD!

The Dolphins come up with a huge defensive play as Sieler recovers the fumble forced by Chubb.

Tua finds Wilson on the right sideline for a gain of 10 yards, but a late hit called on Jones who hit a lineman after the play was over will give MIA a 1st down!

The ball got popped out of Mahomes hands by Chubb and it's Sieler who jumps on it and recovers at the KC 27!!!. 

1st and 10 MIA with 2:12 to go in the 3rd quarter!

Mahomes took it and ran it for 7 yards, but a holding call will bring the Chiefs back after the Dolphins accept the penalty. There was a hit on Mahomes late in that play as he got close to the sidelines but no flag was thrown on MIA.

That quick pass to Kelce was batted by Chubb and popped in the air, but falls incomplete. That was a chance for the Dolphins there.

It took more than 40 minutes for the Dolphins to get into the endzone, but they are on the board with this 31 yard strike to Wilson and no Miami needs to get a stop.

The Dolphins finally started to move the ball after KC's second TD, but former KC Chief Tyreek Hill was stripped and KC scooped it and scored it, not before Edwards pitched it back to Cook who took it the rest of the way!

MIA have just 110 yards of total offense after a half, and have been shut out through two quarters for the first time this season. 

The punt streak came to an end with a 95 yard TD drive that was capped off with Jared McKinnon's 17 yard catch and run to double the Chiefs lead right before the Two Minute Warning. 

After the opening drive, both teams really quieted down for the maority of the first half. There was a stretch in which there 7 straight punts as this game turned into a defensive slugfest. 

It's was just about as perfect of a drive as you could have to start the game. Mahomes was 5/6, and the Chiefs were in the endzone after just three minutes. Rashee Rice took this pass to the flat 11 yards for the game's first TD.

Tua felt the pressure coming, and let it go to Mostert but that pass was no where near the RB and that was force the refs to throw the flag of intentional grounding.

Mahomes going deep for Watson and the coverage was fantastic on a ball that was a few yards overthrown. 

4th and 10 and that will take us to the end of the first quarter. It' been a surprisingly low scoring start after the opening drive TD from the Chiefs. 

Sieler brought the delayed pressure and had Mahomes in his arms, but the QB was able to throw it in the dirt in the area of Pacheco.

Pacheco got held up right around the marker, but he got a nice push from the pile for another few yards.

Tua faked the pass to the flat for Hill and shovel passed it to Ahmed who was just tripped up by Tranquill that saved a certain first down.

Back shoulder pass to Waddle for 17 yards, but a flag for illegal shift on MIA will erase that play.

Tua with a pass to the left side to Wilson, but Reed laid a big hit on the WR to pop the ball out of his hands.

The Dolphins run a reverse from Hill to Waddle and he burns up field for a gain of 12 and a first down.

The Dolphins get the ball back from the 18 and it's Mostert getting the handoff to the left side and he picks up 6 yards up the sideline.

Screen pass set up for Kelce, but he didn't have any blockers around him and the Dolphins take him down after a gain of three. 

4th and 7 and the Chiefs will punt. 

Pacheco takes the handoff on the left side but he is stopped for no gain!

Mahomes drops back and felt pressure immediately. He let it go but the pass was short of Perine out of the backfield.

Watson came with the blitz on the edge, and Tua stepped up into a couple of Chiefs rushers for a 7 yard sack!

Jones jumps offside and he gives the 5 yards right back to the Dolphins.

Miami had to take a TO with the play clock running down, and after the TO the Dolphins are flagged for a false start.

Quick throw to Hill on the left side and he is swarmed by the Chiefs and taken down after a gain of one.

Mostert with the run to the right side and he gets held for no gain on first down. 

2nd and 10 from the MIA 40. Waddle stayed down on the ground after that play ended. 

The Dolphins start their first drive at the 25 and Tua finds Waddle on the deep in route for a gain of 15!

Mahomes went 5/6 for 70 yards on a three minute drive. Rice puts the Chiefs on the board first with this 11 yard TD catch and run. 

After review, the TD is called back after the refs deemed Gray didn't have control of the ball.

Mahomes pass over the middle for Gray in the back of the endzone was called a TD, but that will be reviewed after replays show that the ball might not have been secured.

The Chiefs move the chains with a Mahomes roll out and he finds Moore on a shallow route. He cuts up field for a pick up of 10 and a first down.

It’s been the story of the season. Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s relationship has taken the sport world by storm and the merging of pop culture with the sport world has proved to be a force that no one dares to stop. She has been to a few of Kelce’s games, as you probably already know. Most of those games were home games where she was seen sitting with Mama Kelce and Brittany Hahomes. She was also seen in New York when the Chiefs played the Jets in primetime. Today, all of Frankfurt will have their eyes peeled on not just the game, but on the look out for Taylor Swift. So far we have no word on if she is in Frankfurt for today's game. 

Offense vs. Offense 

We would be remiss to preview this game without going over some of the stats for both of these teams potent offenses. The Dolphins offense is one of the top sides we may ever see in the history of the NFL. They have been scoring at will, averaging a league high 33.9 ppg, and averaging a league best 453.3 yards per game, which is 63 more ypg than the second placed Detriot Lions. The Chiefs aren’t having as good of a season as we are used to seeing from Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. The Chiefs are 12th in points per game with 23.4, but are fourth in the league with 381.4 yards per game. Today the Dolphins have a chance to prove their all time offense can produce against good teams. 

AFC Standings

Taking a look at the AFC Standing coming into this week, we see four teams sitting at 6-2. All four teams are leading their divisions, with the Dolphins on top in the AFC East, the Chiefs in the AFC West, the Jags in the AFC South and the Ravens in the AFC North. Someone will fall here today, and that could end up being the difference maker in who gets the top seed, a bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Needless to say, there is a lot on the line today from Deutsch Bank Park.

KC offense flat lined last week 

Chiefs fans aren’t used to seeing Patrick Mahomes and his offense shut down. That’s exactly what happened last week in Denver, and this week they face a Dolphins defense that is getting strong as the season goes on. They will take on a good Miami team after a long transatlantic flight, and if these international games have shown us anything, it’s that’s scoring TDs overseas isn’t as easy as it is on the home soil. If Travis Kelce and the boys can’t get it going here today, they risk dropping their second straight and losing grasp of first place in the AFC. 

The Fins are in Frankfurt

The Miami Dolphins started the season off as one of the most frightening teams in the league. They were putting on clinics against opposing defenses for the first few weeks of the season, but they showed their first signs of instability in their loss to the Bills. Their offense disappeared and Buffalo almost posted 50 on them. They would recover, but the Eagles did the same thing to them a few weeks later. Tua and the Dolphins were kept to just a TD against the Eagles, and questions began to pop up about the strength of the Fins wins. Today in Germany they have a chance to make a statement and hand the Chiefs their second straight loss. 

Chiefs last week 

Kanasa City is coming off of their worst performance of the season last week. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense was shut down by a team that gave up 70 points to the Dolphins earlier this year. It was a divisional game on the road, and the Broncos came out and bullied them. Mahomes was reportedly battling flu like symptoms and didn’t look himself, throwing two interceptions and never really finding a rhythm in the Mile High City. His undefeated streak came against Denver came to an end, and so did KC’s 16 game win streak over the Broncos. Russell Wilson passed for 3 TDs, despite completing just 12 passes for 114 yards. The loss snapped the Chiefs six game win streak and dropped them back for a tie of the lead in the AFC, with… The Miami Dolphins. 

Dolphins last week 

The Dolphins welcomed division rival, the New England Patriots, to Hard Rock Stadium and despite the offense taking a few series to turn on, they tied the game up at 7-7 in the final minute of the first quarter. Tua and the Dolphins would then turn up the heat on the Pats defense, going for 324 yards, three TDs and 1 INT, taking a 14 point lead into the final quarter. The Pats cut into that lead with a Juju Smith-Schuster TD with 8:30 to go in the fourth, but the Dolphins put the game out of reach with a 31 yard strike from Tua to Jalen Waddle to shut the door on New England and seal their 6th win of the season.

Hello everyone and welcome to Deutsche Bank Park! We couldn’t have asked for a better game to open up Sunday in Week 9. The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of their second loss of the season, and now have to make the journey overseas and look to rebound against a Dolphins team that has been lighting the league up on the offensive end, but have yet to prove themselves against a quality team.
