Dolphins 17 vs 31 Eagles summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 7
The Philadelphia Eagles responded after questions started to surround them following their Week 6 loss to the New York Jets last week. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles came out and played their best football of the season in the 31-17 win over the Miami Dolphins.
Will they meet again?
It was a potential Super Bowl preview from Lincoln Financial Field, between two college teammates who are currently a couple of the best quarterbacks in the league. Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts didn’t speak during the week, but the two met at midfield and exchanged a hand shake and a hug after the Eagles sank the Dolphins from Philly.
The Eagles had a lot of questions to answer after their loss to the Jets, and they did exactly that on Sunday night. Philly might have been 5-0 after their first five games, but no one thought they were playing their best football and when they were shocked in the Meadowlands last week the alarm bells began to sound.
Instead of panicking like the rest of the city, Hurts and the Eagles overwhelmed the Dolphins in every facet of the game. Philly came out and marched right down the field, but were forced to settle for a field goal on the opening drive of the night.
Miami manages just one TD on offense
Miami’s high powered, edging on historic offense was kept in check not just in the first quarter, but all night. The team that came into Week 7 with more total yards and more points scored than any other team in NFL history after six games, was held to just one offensive touchdown all night.
Hurts put the first touchdown on the board when he found Dallas Goedert early in the second half on a screen that the tight end took 21 yards to the house on National Tight Ends Day. The Eagles would stretch their advantage out even more after a deep pass to AJ Brown put the ball inside the one setting up an inevitable tush push turned TD to take a 17-3 lead midway through the second quarter.
Miami came storming back, scoring a touchdown late in the first half as their offense finally started to click. Tagovailoa hit Tyreek Hill on a 27 yard dime to the back of the end zone less than a minute before halftime. The Dolphins would get the ball back after the break, but wouldn’t score again until Jerome Baker picked off a deflected Jalen Hurts pass and took it to the house to tie the game up at 17 with 4:00 to go in the third quarter.
Hurts tops Tua in battle of Bama QBs
The Eagles would take control back with a calm, efficient eight play drive that eased the nerves of the Philly fans. Brown would get his touchdown on a comeback route that he broke up the middle of the field for a 14 yard catch and run to take a 24-17 lead.
Miami would get deep into Philadelphia territory on the next drive, but with the ball on the 24, Tua looked deep for Raheem Mostert, but Darius Slay Jr. came up with the play of the game making the interception in the end zone and flattening the Dolphins chances of tying up the game.
Tua was held to just 216 yards, with one TD and one INT while the run game was limited to 45 yards all night. Hurts polished off the finished the game with 279 yards and two TDs with his one INT, but it was Kennth Gainwell who sealed the deal late in the fourth quarter. He capped off a 13 play, 83 yard drive with a spinning run into the end zone from three yards out with under 5:00 to go in the fourth quarter.
What lies ahead
The Eagles know there isn’t much time to enjoy this win. They have the Commanders and Cowboys before their Week 10 BYE, and then will have KC, the Bills, San Francisco, Dallas again and the Seahawks. The Dolphins are going to have to dust themselves off after the loss, knowing that their five wins have come against teams that had won a total of five games coming into Week 7.
Former teammates, who are now two of the best QBs in the game meet at midfield after one of the many battles that await them.
Hurts and AJ Brown connected 10 times and the WR had 137 yards including this deep ball which set up Kenneth Gainwell's game sealing TD run.
Darius Slay Jr. decided the game with this interception at the goal line. Tua was looking for Mostert and the Eagles safety came flying in to pick Tua off for the first and only time of the night.
Hurts and the Eagles would pick themselves up after the pick six, and march right down the field on an 8 play, 75 yard drive that would calm the nerves of the fans in Philly and put the Eagles back on top.
The Dolphins struggles continued on the offensive end, in large part to the 10 penalties they committed, and they needed a pick six from Jerome Baker to tie the game up late in the third quarter.
Philly would keep the top offense in the league, and some say the greatest offense ever to just one TD, and 244 total yards.
The Dolphins had trouble moving the ball, especially with the ground game, but at the end of the first half they cut into the lead with this 27 yard dime from Tua Tagovailoa to Tyreek Hill in the corner of the endzone.
Philly would stretch their lead out even more with this incredible play from Hurts to escape a tackle, roll right and find AJ Brown who took it all the way inside the 1 yard line, where Hurts would tush push his way into the end zone on the next play.
Both teams were held to field goals in the first quarter, but early in the second, Jalen Hurts for Dallas Goedert for this 20 yard screen pass that the TE took to the house on National Tight Ends Day.

Philly will get the ball to start the game, and they begin their first drive from the 23.
Ramsey's return is coming soon
He isn’t coming back tonight, but he is coming back soon. Jalen Ramsey signed with Miami this offseason to beef up the Dolphins D, but was quickly sidelined with a meniscus injury in the preseason. He warned everyone that he would be back sooner than doctors expected, and he returned to practice this week. He may not be on the field tonight, but his presence on the practice field should be a big boost for Miami’s D. There is still no word on when he might make his Miami debut, but as soon as he comes back expect him to have an immediate impact in the secondary.
What's to come
The Eagles may have been guilty of looking ahead to tonight’s game last week in the Meadowlands. It was the typical trap game where you go into a stadium with a rampant fanbase, against a team with a great defense, the week before one of the biggest games of the season. The Eagles lost that game, and now have a battle tonight against the Dolphins, but it gets worse. After this week they have the Commanders, Cowboys, Chiefs, Bills, Niners, Cowboys and Seahawks.
Greatest Show On Surf?
We are in the midst of witnessing history. If things stay the same for the Dolphins they will have a good chance to put up numbers that have never been seen in the history of the league. For years the 1999 St. Louis Rams team otherwise known as the Greatest Show on Turf was knowns as the most prolific offense NFL history. A group led by Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk and Isaac Bruce lit the league up and went on to win XXXIV against the Titans. That year, the Rams were 6-0 after their first six, Miami is 5-1. However, the Dolphins are averaging 37.2 ppg and totaling 498.7 yards a game, where the Rams scored 36.2 ppg and gained 493.8 yards per game. The Fins still have a long way to go before they can compare themselves with the Super Bowl champs who are still known as the greatest offense in the history of the league, but they are on track.
Hurts trying to put last week in rear view
Jalen Hurts finished second in MVP voting last season after a brilliant season which saw the Eagles go all the way to the Super Bowl and fall a field goal short of beating the Kansas City Cheifs. This year hasn’t been quite as fruitful for the third year QB. He is under a new scheme and new offensive coordinator after Shane Steichen departed to the Colts to take over as head coach in Indy. Hurts is still growing accustomed to Brian Johnson’s offensive and Johnson is still figuring out how the offense through Hurts. Last week was proof that there is still a lot of work to be done. Tonight they go up against a Dolphins D that is far from air tight, but the question will be if the Eagles offense can keep up with Tua and Tyreek.
Tua looking to air it out vs. Eagles.
From top to bottom, this is without question the most talented offense in the NFL. Tua has more yards than anyone in the league, Tyreek Hill is the fastest player in the league and has the most receiving yards in the league. Jalen Waddle is a top receiver that is without question the best second option any QB in the league has, and even with rookie RB De’Von Achane going down to injury after a fantastic start to the season, Raheem Mostert fills in and puts up 115 last week and is the league's TD leader after six weeks. There are a multitude of weapons on this offense and if this team can stay healthy, they are only going to get tougher to slow down.
Eagles last week
The formula to beat the Jets was simple, but not easy. Don’t turn the ball over and don’t give them a chance to win it late. They turned the ball over four times, which gave the Jets a chance to take the lead late in the 4th quarter. Nothing Philly did looked like the Philly that we saw go to the Super Bowl last year, but that’s been the case for much of this season. Jalen Hurts threw three interceptions, not all were his fault, but the passing game was out of sync, and the run game never got going. D’Andre Swift had just 18 yards and Kenneth Gainwell had 13 as Hurts led the team with 47 yards on the ground. Despite their struggles the defense kept them in the game holding the Jets to to four field goals until late in the fourth quarter when Jalen Hurts was picked off by Tony Adams who returned 45 yards to inside the PHI 10 yards line. A play later Breece Hall ran in a TD and the Jets took their first lead of the game with 1:46 on the clock.
Miami last week
The great thing about having as good of an offense as the Dolphins do is you can take a quarter off like they did against the Panthers last week, and still blow out a team like they did against the Panthers last week. Miami went down 14-0 at the first quarter, but then scored five straight touchdowns and ended up waxing the winless Panthers 42-21. Tua Tagovailoa continued to pad his MVP stats, with 262 yards passing and 3 TDs, while Raheem Mostert had 115 yards and 2 TDs on 17 yards in the Week 6 win.
We are live from Philly
Hello everyone and welcome to The Linc, where the Eagles return home after a stunning loss to the New York Jets last week. Philly was 5-0 heading into that game, but everyone was talking about them being far from their best and yet to hit stride on the offensive end. Those concerns were materialized last week and now the Eagles have a the toughest schedule imaginable for the next month and a half, starting with the Dolphins. Miami may have lost to Buffalo in Week 4, but since then they have bounced back to regain their reputation one of the top teams, and maybe the best offense we have ever seen. Tonight we have a clash of the titans, so get your popcorn ready.
