Dolphins' WR Grant Dubose injury: What we know about the Miami receiver’s situation
The wide receiver was carried off on a stretcher after taking a blow to the head. The game was stopped for 12 minutes while he received attention.
Miami Dolphins are waiting for news on Grant Dubose who was taken to the trauma center at NRG Stadium after taking a blow to the head in today’s Week 15 matchup against the Houston Texans.
The wide receiver collided with Texans defender Calen Bullock Jr on a second-and-9 play over the middle of the field late in the third quarter. The game was stopped while Miami’s medical assessed the player as he lay motionless on the ground. After close to 12 minutes, Dubose was carried to the blue tent on a stretcher hooked up to a mobile IV.
Dubose taken to hospital
Miami’s medical staff continued to follow the NFL’s Emergency Medical Action Plan (EAP) procedure. Dubose was evaluated inside the locker room for head, neck and spine injuries then taken to a nearby hospital for more tests. The Dolphins have since confirmed that the 23-year-old WR has suffered a head injury and will therefore now enter concussion protocol.
Under NFL rules and regulations, Dubose will undergo a follow-up evaluation tomorrow (Monday 16th). If concussion is diagnosed, he will then have to follow a strict five-step process before being cleared to take part in practice or play in an NFL game. Clearance to return to play can only be provided externally by an independent neurological consultant.
Dubose was claimed off waivers by the Dolphins from Green Bay in August. So far this season he has played three games (against the Texans, Bills and Jaguars), catching one pass for 13 yards.
