Eagles fans didn’t want to hear that “things could get squirrelly”

Update:

After watching their team lift the Lombardi Trophy, Eagles fans could be forgiven for daydreaming about a dynasty. But the cold reality of the NFL calendar waits for no one, and as the 2025 season creeps into view, the good vibes in Philadelphia are already being put to the test... at least for some people.

How the Eagles are looking ahead of NFL 2025

ESPN analyst Ben Solak didn’t mince words. Writing about the aftermath of the Eagles’ championship run, he pointed out that a massive 4,114 defensive snaps from last season are now gone, thanks largely to offseason exits along the defensive line and secondary.

Sure, young talent is lined up to fill the void, he added, and there’s optimism that the next wave of players will rise to the occasion. But even the most devout fans know better than to expect a seamless handover in a league this competitive. Solak hinted as much when he predicted a “rocky start,” made worse by a brutal opening stretch against the Cowboys, Chiefs, Rams, Bucs, and Broncos – all seen as legitimate playoff contenders.

And then came that line that all German Philly fans dreaded: “Things could get squirrelly.”

For a fanbase still celebrating their Super Bowl parade, it’s not exactly the pep talk they were hoping for. But is it off the mark? No one’s suggesting Philly’s glory days are over, and indeed ESPN Bet has ranked the Eagles as the most likely NFC representatives for the Super Bowl ahead of the Lions, 49ers and Commanders. But those first five games will say a lot about how ready this team really is.
