The Pennsylvania team hoists the Vince Lombardi Trophy, just as it did in 2018, when they defeated the New England Patriots 41-33 in Minneapolis. This time, they delivered a similar performance against another NFL dynasty and another all-time great quarterback. Back then, it was Tom Brady’s Patriots. Now, it was Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles' offense exploded that night—and did so again on February 9 in New Orleans.

Forty-one points seven years ago. Forty today. This marks just the ninth time a team has hit the 40-point mark in a Super Bowl. The last time? Those same Eagles in 2018. Before that, it was the Seattle Seahawks led by Russell Wilson, who crushed Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos 43-8 in New York. The highest total ever recorded in a Super Bowl remains the Dallas Cowboys’ 52-point rout of the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVII.

The Eagles now join elite company—just the second team ever to appear twice on the list of the highest-scoring Super Bowl performances. Before them, only the San Francisco 49ers had managed the feat, when Joe Montana and Steve Young dismantled the Broncos and Chargers, respectively.

Beyond the offensive fireworks, this victory also ranks as one of the most lopsided Super Bowl wins in recent years. Not since Super Bowl LV, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated the Chiefs 31-9, had a team won by such a large margin. Mahomes was on the losing end of that one, too. The final 22-point gap in this latest Eagles triumph doesn’t tell the full story—the scoreline was on the verge of humiliation with just three minutes left on the clock.

In the end, it was Jalen Hurts and the Eagles who lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy, delivering a performance to remember.
